To keep the ships ready for combat

Talking with Rear Admiral Nguyen Thien Quan, Commander of Naval Region 3, we were told by him about his experience in managing and operating the unit: “First of all, leaders and commanders must clearly understand the sacred responsibility of marine soldiers, always attach importance to promoting political and spiritual factors; regularly attach importance to improving the quality of training and combat readiness (SSCD), ensuring that the unit has enough capacity to respond, successfully handle all situations and complete all tasks well. This is both the goal, requirement and a consistent lesson of Naval Region 3 over the past years.”

The formation of ships of Naval Region 3 marched to carry out the mission.

Rear Admiral Nguyen Thien Quan led us down to the military port. It was a hot summer day, but the working atmosphere of the units was very lively and urgent. Officers and sailors on the ships were enthusiastically practicing their skills at the port. The sound of engines and commands mixed with the sound of waves...

After a firm handshake, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Hoa, Political Commissar of Brigade 172, took us to visit the ships and witness soldiers practicing handling situations. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Hoa said: For ships to operate at sea, training and combat readiness must meet high requirements, no matter how carefully prepared, it is not too much. Officers and soldiers take advantage of the time to practice many plans to go to sea safely. To perform well the training and combat readiness tasks, ensuring absolute safety, the unit focuses on complex application subjects, preparing sailors to be ready to take on the task of going to sea in all conditions and situations.

In fact, if in the past, Brigade 172 only focused on linking training quality with the responsibility of the Party Committee and commander, now it specifically links the responsibility of each individual. In the training process, situations were often created right at the wharf, but now they wait until the ships and formations march to the anchorage to create combat situations. This way of doing things promotes the initiative, creativity, and quick response of the commander and all officers and soldiers.

Thanks to the promotion of collective strength and the proactiveness and positivity of every individual, over the past years, Brigade 172 has organized training at sea, achieving 100% of the plan; specialized training has achieved 100% good and excellent results (more than 50% excellent)... Ships going to sea to carry out their missions have to face many challenges, storms and dangers that constantly lurk, but officers and soldiers are always united, brave, confident, flexible in handling situations well, overcoming all dangers and hardships, being in combat readiness and winning, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.

"Divine eye" guarding the sea

We marched to Station 545 (Regiment 351) on a high point. It was almost noon but the fog was still thick, the forest mist spread, creating an interesting, close feeling between nature and people.

On the way, Colonel Nguyen Huu Hung, Political Commissar of Regiment 351, shared an overview of the unit's situation: In recent years, officers and soldiers of Regiment 351 have always been united, overcome difficulties, stayed close to stations and radio stations, effectively promoted the technical and tactical features of equipment and weapons, especially new equipment; combined many sources of information, promptly detected, monitored, and grasped developments at sea, reported accurately and promptly to command posts at all levels, avoiding being passive or surprised. In recent years, the Regiment has always promoted democracy and strict discipline, 100% of officers and soldiers have strong political will, ready to receive and complete tasks well.

Ships of Naval Region 3 practice firing torpedoes at sea.

Confiding in Major Hoang Van Tuong, Station Chief of Station 545, he confided: “Naval radar soldiers have their own characteristics. They are marines but work on high points, in the mountains and forests. While our comrades in the ship unit surf the waves at sea, we keep our eyes on the radar fluorescent screen 24/7 to observe and detect targets. We are not allowed to be negligent or lose our vigilance, even for a second or a minute. With such a special mission, the unit must strictly maintain the combat readiness regime; promptly detect, monitor and report the situation to superiors. Communication activities must also always be guaranteed to be smooth, receiving and transmitting messages promptly, accurately, confidentially and safely."

We learned that over the years, not only Brigade 172 and Regiment 351 but also all agencies and units of Naval Region 3 have strived to successfully complete all tasks, practically contributing to building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern Vietnam People's Navy, firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
