The US has funded more than VND100 billion to improve the efficiency of fertilizer use, increase farmers' income and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation.

On the morning of April 9, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to launch a project on proper fertilizer use.

The project will be implemented over 4 years with an estimated budget of 4.4 million USD (over 100 billion VND), funded by the Department of Foreign Agricultural Affairs (under USDA). The project will be implemented in 3 provinces of the Red River Delta ( Hai Duong , Thai Binh, Nam Dinh) and 3 provinces of the Mekong River Delta (Can Tho, Dong Thap and Soc Trang).

Through the project, farmers will increase their responsibility in using fertilizer effectively, avoiding wasting billions of dong. The project's activities are built and implemented based on the 4Rs principle in nutrient management, including: requiring the use of the right type, right ratio, right time and right place.

Experts from the US Department of Agriculture , the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Vietnamese scientists guide farmers in implementing the project.

Rice growers will have access to techniques, advanced technology applications and precision agricultural practices to make optimal use of inputs including fertilizers in rice cultivation, so that good experiences can be replicated nationwide.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, through this project, farmers will improve fertilizer use efficiency, increase their income and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation from proper fertilizer use.
