Surpass yourself

At 5 a.m., when the whistle sounded, "little" soldier Bui Tuan Anh (13 years old, residential group 5, Yen Lac town, Na Ri district), a member of squad 04, immediately got up, folded his blanket neatly, cleaned himself, and went to the yard to exercise with his teammates.

In the military environment, every activity is organized and highly disciplined. And with 2 years of experience in the “Military Semester” program, Tuan Anh has become a model of self-awareness and exemplary behavior. Tuan Anh enjoys the training sessions on unarmed martial arts, field trips, and lessons on the unit’s history.

“The most impressive thing for me was learning about the Hoang Cam stove, a unique field stove used by our soldiers in the resistance war against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists. Participating in the program, I always tried to follow the regulations so as not to affect the squad. The program helped me understand the training environment of the soldiers, thereby making me love my homeland and country even more and be proud of the tradition of the Vietnam People's Army,” Tuan Anh said.

Unlike Tuan Anh, soldier Cao Trung Quan (8 years old, Duc Xuan ward, Bac Kan city) was somewhat bewildered because it was his first time away from home to experience life in the military environment. He was used to being taken care of by his parents, but when he "joined the army", Trung Quan had to be independent from the smallest things such as doing laundry, folding blankets, washing dishes...

Trung Quan was guided and encouraged by his teammates to gradually adapt and complete well the tasks assigned by the Organizing Committee.

“This is the first time I have been away from my parents for such a long time. Before, my parents helped me with laundry and dishes, but now I can do it myself. The squad members come from many different places, but when they live and study together, everyone is very united and helps each other. The program helps me make many new friends,” Trung Quan said.

When asked about his feelings when participating in the program, "little soldier" Luong Ngoc Hoa confided: This is the first time I have been introduced to the military environment, tested myself by overcoming difficulties and challenges that I have never had to do at home.

Nurture the good

It can be seen that material and spiritual life is increasingly improved, parents all want to bring their children the best things, but it is also from the love and care of parents that makes many children dependent, indifferent, indifferent to others, lacking life skills, easily discouraged by difficulties...

"Semester in the Army" has created a new environment for students to initially experiment with the hardships of life, rekindling the flame of love and deep concern among family members that is often obscured by the worries of life.

Children bond more closely together through group games.

Ms. Hoang Hai Ha, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, said: "The program "Semester in the Army" focuses on helping students form good habits, give up bad habits; know how to love and cherish beautiful feelings with grandparents, parents, friends and everyone around them; share with those in unfortunate circumstances; practice social skills, communication and behavior, know how to respond and equip skills to handle situations in difficult conditions...

"From those initial inspirations, when returning to daily life, the children themselves, their families, schools, and surrounding living environments will help them continue to perfect good things," Ms. Ha believes.

Tears were shed when the soldiers wrote letters to their parents.

This is clearly demonstrated through each page of the diary, each letter written by the children themselves to their families. Although the letters are very innocent like: "I love my grandparents and mother very much", or "I have washed my own clothes", "I know how to fold blankets and clothes just like Uncle Ho's soldiers...", many parents are very happy after the training course.

Many parents understand their children better, and the children feel deeply the preciousness of the family they have. Ms. Bui Thi Hue, parent of Bui Tuan Anh, shared that although the program was very short, it has also created clear progress for her child, knowing how to care for grandparents, help his mother with housework, take care of himself, wake up early, arrange the curtains and pillows neatly and tidily.

The 2025 "Military Semester" ended with hugs, regrets and even tears from the young soldiers. The summer days in the army brought a new wind, positively affecting the children's thinking and awareness when returning to their families and schools.../.
