Moscow lists Kiev's total losses in Kursk, discusses Middle East situation with Iran; European country promotes investment in Ukraine

On October 12, on the sidelines of an international forum in the capital Ashgabat of Turkmenistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin met directly with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Amid growing concerns about Tehran's arms supplies for Moscow's military campaign in Ukraine, as well as escalating conflicts in the Middle East, the two leaders discussed attacks by Israel and Iran and its allies.

Speaking at the meeting, Iranian President Pezeshkian said: "We have many opportunities now and we must help each other in our relations. Our principles and positions in the international arena are the same as yours."

For his part, President Putin assured his counterpart Pezeshkian that Moscow and Tehran's positions on international events are often very close.

On the same day, October 12, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Russian army had repelled five Ukrainian attacks, causing Kiev to lose more than 400 troops and 18 pieces of equipment in the Kursk region in the past day.

Thus, since Ukraine launched an attack deep into Russian territory in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian army has lost more than 22,300 troops, 150 tanks, 98 armored personnel carriers, 71 infantry fighting vehicles, 907 armored fighting vehicles, 608 motor vehicles, 185 artillery pieces and 36 multiple launch rocket systems, including 9 HIMARS launchers and 6 MLRS launchers made in the United States.

In addition, to date, Russian forces have destroyed nine missile launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 48 electronic warfare systems, nine counter-battery radars, three air defense radars and 22 engineering equipment, including 13 combat engineering vehicles and one UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle, as well as three armored maintenance and recovery vehicles.

In another development, on October 12, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram said that the Ministry of Defense has established a military attaché office in Kiev, which will facilitate cooperation between the Norwegian and Ukrainian professional and industrial communities in the field of defense innovation and industrial development. Mr. Bjorn Arild Gram recommended that Norwegian companies invest in Ukraine.

“Significant investment and private sector involvement are needed to meet Ukraine’s enormous needs. Norwegian companies want to share knowledge, experience and solutions in both the short and long term. This is also what the Ukrainian side is asking for,” said the Norwegian Defense Minister.

He stressed that in the long term it may become appropriate for Norwegian companies to set up production operations in Ukraine.
