At a meeting with Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, with the participation of representatives from several provincial agencies and the Vietnamese community, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized the importance of upgrading Vietnam-Thailand relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to open up opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two countries, including relations between Vietnamese localities and Phuket province.
The Ambassador highly appreciated Phuket’s achievements in tourism development and suggested that the province pay attention to establishing cooperative relations with Vietnamese localities, including An Giang province. The Ambassador thanked and hoped that Phuket province would continue to create favorable conditions for the Thai community of Vietnamese origin living in the locality; at the same time, support and assist Vietnamese airlines to open flights to Phuket to enhance tourism and trade connections.
Expressing his impression of Vietnam's socio -economic development, Governor Sophon said that the community of nearly 1,000 Vietnamese (including Thais of Vietnamese origin) living in Phuket has made positive contributions to the local development. Mr. Sophon fully agreed to consider the possibility of promoting cooperation with suitable localities in Vietnam, as well as supporting the opening of a direct flight connecting Phuket with Vietnam.

Also during his visit to Phuket province, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung met with representatives of the Vietnamese community and representatives of the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association of the province.
At the meetings, the Ambassador informed the people about the socio-economic development situation of the country as well as the major decisions of the Party and State leaders to achieve major development goals. The Ambassador acknowledged the people's heart always turned towards their homeland and country; wished that the people always preserve and promote the traditions and culture of the nation; unite, help each other and comply with local laws, contributing to the development of the locality as well as the relationship between Vietnam and Thailand.
Excited to welcome the Ambassador and the delegation, Mr. Duong Xuan Son - Chairman of the Thai Vietnamese Association - and Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Thai Vietnamese Business Association of Phuket Province - said that the Vietnamese expatriates in Phuket are very united, wholeheartedly helping each other and looking towards their homeland. The people here are also very interested in and trust the current national development policies of the Party and State. Currently in Phuket, there are 150 overseas Vietnamese families with a total of more than 600 people, most of whom are in the tourism business and have quite stable economic conditions.
During his working trip, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung also visited and worked with the General Director of Phuket International Airport Monchai Tanode. Also attending was Head of Vietnam Airlines Branch in Thailand Ngo Tri Hung.

At the meeting, both sides agreed that Phuket province and other localities of Vietnam have great potential for bilateral cooperation in many fields, especially tourism. Ambassador Pham Viet Hung suggested that Phuket International Airport pay attention and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese airlines when they have flights to Phuket.
In addition, in Phuket, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung also had a working session with Chairman of Phuket Tourism Association Thaneth Tantipiriyakij, representatives of the Hotel Association and representatives of the Phuket Provincial Industry Federation.
