Expanding potential
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Phuong - Owner of Thanh Cong agarwood production facility (Dai Quang commune, Dai Loc) said that for many years, the unit has been attached to the traditional profession, bringing to the market two familiar OCOP products: smoke-free agarwood cones and apricot blossom incense.
The facility is constantly improving product quality, targeting demanding markets, however, access to new technology, formal training programs and large markets like Da Nang is still limited due to administrative barriers and differences in support mechanisms.

“We have high expectations for the upcoming merger phase. If we have deeper access to support programs from big cities like Da Nang, especially connecting with research centers and universities, agarwood products will have the opportunity to improve in quality and packaging design, thereby easily accessing modern distribution chains,” said Ms. Phuong.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Phan Thanh Kien - Director of Deo Le Agricultural Cooperative said that merging administrative units is a push for Quang Nam products to step out of the "market depression". Deo Le Agricultural Cooperative currently has three OCOP certified products including Deo Le wine, traditional braised chicken and vegetarian straw mushrooms, all of which are imbued with the culinary identity of Quang Nam but have only been distributed within the province in the past.

“The Da Nang market has always been considered a provincial market, and every time we approach large distribution systems or participate in fairs and events connecting supply and demand, we need to go through intermediaries. When administrative boundaries are merged, the opportunity to connect directly, find strategic partners and especially approach investors or logistics businesses in the city will be more open,” Mr. Kien analyzed.

According to Mr. Kien, Quang Nam becoming a part of a centrally-governed city, which is considered the tourism - financial - commercial center of the Central region, will create conditions for OCOP products, local specialties and handicrafts to have more consumption channels. In addition, easy access to strict standards on quality and traceability will also help improve competitiveness when aiming for export.
Ready for the new push
As of June 2025, Quang Nam province had 546 OCOP products evaluated and classified at district and provincial levels. Meanwhile, Da Nang, although smaller in scale in rural areas, has also developed 148 OCOP products of 3 stars or higher, by 91 entities, with many potential products meeting export standards.

The convergence between the two localities opens up a unified space with a diverse product ecosystem, including advantages in raw material areas, processing skills and consumption markets.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Head of the Quang Nam Rural Development Department informed that according to the draft merger project, the Quang Nam Rural Development Department will take over the task of implementing the "One Commune One Product" program, managing, developing and supporting the OCOP products of Da Nang (new). This is an opportunity to build an inter-regional support program, making good use of resources from both sides, especially in the stages of training, quality control, trade promotion and brand building. Adding more capable entities in Da Nang will help improve the output standards for the entire OCOP system in the Quang Nam - Da Nang region.

“We will focus more on investment in traceability, digital transformation and connecting to multinational markets, targeting products with geographical indications and export potential. This institutional and planning boost needs to be taken advantage of at the right time so that products can reach further, not just stop at the domestic market as before,” said Mr. Hung.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Sinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Head of the Steering Committee for supporting innovative startups in Quang Nam province, said that Da Nang is currently leading the Central region in the number of innovative startups, with a fairly complete innovation ecosystem, with investment funds, incubation centers, and co-working spaces. When merging into one administrative unit, Quang Nam product owners can completely connect with this resource to restructure production models, improve technology, and at the same time improve management skills and market access.
