On August 16, speaking to Dan Tri reporter, specialist doctor Huynh Ngoc Hon, Director of Trung Vuong Hospital (HCMC), said that recently, doctors here performed surgery to free a female patient from a dangerous gallbladder condition.

The patient is Ms. HN (born in 1974, Vietnamese American). According to the patient, she was previously diagnosed with gallstones at a medical facility in the US, but failed to anesthetize her for surgery, so she was only treated with internal medicine and pain relief.

Recently, when returning to Vietnam for work, the patient went to a private hospital to seek treatment, but continued to fail during the anesthesia phase during surgery.

At the time of admission to Trung Vuong Hospital, the patient was in a state of severe pain in the right hypochondrium. Through examination and X-ray tests, doctors determined that the patient had gallstones and needed urgent surgery.

If not treated promptly, the Vietnamese woman may suffer from severe cholecystitis, gallbladder necrosis, and even severe infection that is life-threatening.

Specialist Doctor 2 Doan Kim Huyen, Head of the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, said that under great pressure when the patient had failed two previous surgeries, the surgical and anesthesia team thoroughly inspected the situation, found the cause, and came up with a careful anesthesia plan.

The patient was noted to be allergic to more than 20 antigens, was also overweight, and had a history of sleep apnea. Therefore, the anesthesia team proactively administered aerosol, administered intravenous anti-allergy medication, and closely monitored the patient's airway.

Thanks to that, the surgery was performed smoothly, removing 481 gallstones from the patient's gallbladder. After the surgery, the overseas Vietnamese woman's health gradually stabilized.

“With a gallbladder containing many stones like that of the patient above, if not treated properly, it can cause severe cholecystitis, the stones can fall into the main bile duct, causing bile duct obstruction, acute pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction and many other complications.

Therefore, patients with gallstones need to be examined and consulted at a good professional facility to detect the disease early.

Furthermore, each patient has different underlying diseases and constitutions, so they need to be examined and have a detailed, reasonable treatment plan to achieve the best treatment results," Master, Specialist Doctor 2 Doan Van Tran, Deputy Head of General Surgery Department, recommended.
