Salinity tends to decrease from the second half of March

(KGO) - According to the Kien Giang Hydrometeorological Station, from the second half of March to May 2025, salinity intrusion will decrease at a lower level than the average of many years. From May 2025 onwards, salinity intrusion on rivers tends to decrease rapidly.

Unseasonal rains are forecast to continue in Kien Giang province and there will be widespread seasonal rains in April 2025. The start of the rainy season in Kien Giang province is forecast to come earlier than the average of many years, around the last week of April 2025 to the first week of May 2025.

Therefore, salinity intrusion from the second half of March to May 2025 will decrease at a lower level than the average of many years. From May 2025 onwards, salinity intrusion on rivers tends to decrease rapidly.

Saltwater intrusion is strong during high tides: from March 21 to 24; March 31 to April 3; April 16 to April 19 and April 28 to May 1.

Based on the forecast of salinity intrusion as above, Kien Giang province does not need to operate the Ba Lich estuary for the remaining time of the 2024-2025 dry season. There will still be strong salinity intrusion during the remaining period of the 2024-2025 dry season. However, salinity will recede quickly when the tide goes down, and salinity will not maintain high concentrations during the day deep into the fields.
