Ready for the common good
In the middle of a hot summer afternoon, the temperature outside reached nearly 40 degrees Celsius, but agricultural extension officers, businesses and safe agricultural product stores in the city still enthusiastically discussed and introduced special agricultural products of Vua field in Dong Ta village, Vinh Bao commune.
Vinh Bao is a sandy land along the river, suitable for growing pear guava trees for a fragrant, delicious, crispy, and sweeter quality than similar products. Agricultural extension officers directly "hold hands" and guide people on how to livestream to sell products right in the field.
The product is packaged in 5 kg boxes, has traceability stamps and collective intellectual property labels. Therefore, Vinh Bao pear guava is sold at 17,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, while the same product in other communes is only sold at 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg...

In the 2025 lychee season, in Thanh Ha commune, farmers are busy harvesting. Everyone is happy because this year's lychee crop is good, but they are also wondering if the product will fall into a difficult situation when the supply is too large?
However, this year, Thanh Ha litchis were sold out earlier. That is thanks to the joint efforts of functional agencies and local authorities to promote litchi consumption. The Department of Agriculture and Environment launched a campaign to promote the product at many large agricultural fairs, bringing litchis to large supermarket chains such as Co.op Mart, Metro, GO! and wholesale markets nationwide. At the same time, export promotion activities were also focused on, bringing Thanh Ha litchis to many international markets...
According to the report of the Agricultural Extension Center, the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hai Phong, in recent years, the connection between supply and demand and consumption of agricultural products has been of interest to functional agencies and local authorities. Currently, it is estimated that about 25 - 30% of agricultural products produced are linked to product consumption with businesses; in which the most popular are quality rice varieties, specialty fruit trees, green vegetables...
For rice, 100% of large-scale rice farms produce quality rice in association with enterprises and cooperatives. Vegetables and fruit trees are produced according to safety standards, VietGAP has supermarkets, safe agricultural product stores that purchase products... In particular, some gardeners and farms have expanded the form of production combined with experiential tourism , welcoming travel businesses to visit and buy products...

Ensuring strong bonds
Obviously, linking production and product consumption opens up many prospects for improving the city's agricultural products and increasing economic value for farmers. However, moving towards a sustainable consumption link requires cooperation and efforts from many sides: farmers, businesses, functional agencies and local authorities.
According to Hoang Van Nam, Sales Director in charge of Co.opmart Hai Phong supermarket, currently most of the agricultural products at the supermarket are imported from the South. The company really wants to cooperate with Hai Phong farmers to supply products to the supermarket, especially seasonal agricultural products. This way, the company can reduce transportation costs, and locally imported agricultural products will be guaranteed to be fresher. However, sometimes it is difficult for the company to import some local products because they do not meet the standards of appearance, product traceability stamps, etc.
Some businesses when linking to consume products said that the linkage is not stable and long-term. Ms. Do Thi Duyen, Director of Ky Duyen Green Food Company Limited, said: Businesses are willing to link to consume products for farmers, from vegetables to rice, specifically J02 rice and sticky rice, winter vegetables for export. However, some agricultural products still have difficulty meeting the standards of businesses, especially for export such as: lack of VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards; production areas are not large enough, conditions for high-tech production are limited...
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Luong Thi Kiem said that the city has more than 185,000 hectares of agricultural land. with many key crop groups. However, many products have small production areas and are not concentrated... This reality poses an urgent need for solutions to innovate production thinking, organizational models and market approaches.
In the coming time, Hai Phong City will resolutely direct the development of digital agricultural data infrastructure, e-commerce connection, agricultural product logistics and export market expansion. The cooperation of scientists, businesses, cooperatives and farmers will create a strong driving force for the modernization and sustainable development of Hai Phong's agricultural sector.

With the support of authorities, the drastic participation of local authorities will gradually promote sustainable links between farmers and businesses in cooperation in production and consumption of products. Deputy Director of Hai Phong Agricultural Extension Center Cao Thanh Huyen shared that consumers tend to buy goods online, via livestream, and e-commerce platforms. Agricultural extension officers always accompany farmers in connecting consumption, expanding markets with new, effective methods, in line with the trend of the 4.0 era. For example, inviting experts to guide farmers on how to livestream to promote and introduce products on digital platforms. Instructing farmers to build concentrated production areas to improve quality, aiming to expand the area to meet VietGAP, OCOP standards, develop in the direction of ecological and organic agriculture to meet the requirements of linking product consumption of businesses...
