Leaders of Ngoc Chien commune burn incense and offer new rice at Don Ho Church, Muong Chien village.

The 2025 Ngoc Chien commune new rice festival includes a ceremony and a festival. The ceremony includes a new rice offering ritual at Don Ho Church, Muong Chien village; Sa Mu tree god church, Na Tau village. The shaman performs the ritual to express gratitude to ancestors, gods, heaven and earth, praying for favorable weather, good harvest, and a prosperous and fulfilling life.

After the ceremony at the ancestral shrine, households prepare a new rice offering at home. Depending on each family's conditions, guests are invited to join in the celebration. At the end of the ceremony, the host invites guests to join in the celebration with a jar of rice wine and wish each other good things.

The festival attracted a large number of visitors with special performances under the theme "New Rice Ngoc Chien", with many singing, dancing and music performances by artisans and art troupes from the commune's villages resounding in the mountains and forests, praising the Party, Uncle Ho, the innovative homeland, love between couples, natural scenery and the fragrant rice scent of Ngoc Chien fields.

The new rice festival is held at the right time when the rice fields stretching along Chien stream are golden ripe, creating a beautiful golden season picture in the middle of majestic mountains and forests. This is also an opportunity to promote, introduce, attract domestic and foreign tourists to experience, enjoy, find investment opportunities, exchange, cooperate, and develop in the fairy-tale countryside of Ngoc Chien with great potential for tourism development.

The 2025 Ngoc Chien New Rice Festival will be held for 2 days (August 30 and 31) at Muong Chien 1 Stadium, Ngoc Chien Commune with a series of attractive cultural activities, sports , and traditional games, imbued with the cultural identity of ethnic minorities in the highlands. In particular, coming to the Festival, visitors can participate in cheering and experiencing the green rice pounding competition; traditional costume competition and the beauty of the girls of the fairyland of Ngoc Chien Commune; performing the "Buffalo Worship Ceremony" and the buffalo prince competition; fish catching competition, stone stacking competition, culinary competition... promising to bring domestic and foreign visitors interesting experiences.

The singing and dancing performance "Returning to Ngoc Chien, my hometown" was performed by male and female groups from schools in the commune.

As part of the series of activities for the 2025 New Rice Festival, Ngoc Chien commune organized a traditional green rice pounding competition.

Teams compete in roasting sticky rice at the Com pounding contest.

The competition had the participation of 7 teams, with 35 members who are experienced artisans. Each team prepared at least 3kg of new sticky rice, along with full equipment, such as: mortar, pestle, pan and stove. Within 60 minutes, the teams demonstrated their dexterity, harmony and team spirit, meticulousness in each step of making green rice: From roasting rice on hot coals to ensure moderate ripeness, pounding and winnowing to create flat, fragrant green rice grains with a beautiful green color and characteristic aroma.

After pounding, the glutinous rice is winnowed to remove the husk and broken grains, keeping only the young green rice grains.

The contest is a playground for artisans to show off their ingenuity, and at the same time an opportunity to introduce and promote local products closer to tourists, contributing to spreading good traditional cultural values.
