Inside the jar was more than three liters of liquid of unknown origin. Archaeologists were also unable to speculate what the liquid in the belly of this swan-shaped jar actually was. According to expert Zhou Xiaodong of the Sanmenxia Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the liquid was cloudy and dark, with a cloudy yellowish-brown color and sediment at the bottom. It did not smell of alcohol. A sample has been sent to a laboratory in Beijing to trace the true origin of the liquid. Photo: @Sanmenxia Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.
