Scenario for U19 Vietnam to enter the semi-finals of U19 Southeast Asia 2024

Việt NamViệt Nam22/07/2024

According to the regulations of the 2024 Southeast Asian U19 tournament, 12 teams are divided into 3 groups, only the 3 group winners are guaranteed to enter the semi-finals. The remaining team will be the second team with the best results in each group. Thus, the second place in the group does not necessarily guarantee the teams a ticket to the semi-finals.

Therefore, U19 Vietnam no longer has the right to decide because in Group B, U19 Australia has firmly held the top position with 6 points. In this group, U19 Vietnam is currently ranked 3rd with 1 point after 2 matches, Myanmar is temporarily ranked 2nd with 2 points and Laos is ranked last with 1 point.

The mandatory condition for U19 Vietnam now is to win U19 Laos in the last round with the highest score possible. In addition, U19 Vietnam also has to hope U19 Myanmar does not win U19 Australia in the match at the same time.

After finishing second in Group B, U19 Vietnam needs to hope that the second-placed teams in Group A and C get less than 4 points or have 4 points but a lower goal difference. This is an unlikely scenario as Timor Leste and Thailand (the second-placed teams in Group A and C at the moment have 3 points).

The match between U19 Vietnam and U19 Laos will take place at 3:00 p.m. on July 24.
