On January 21, information from the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tinh Province Police said that this unit has just issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and temporarily detain 1 doctor, 1 nurse, and 1 insurance agent who created fake documents to profit from insurance money, to investigate the same crime of fraud in insurance business.
The defendants include: Le Khac Hung (47 years old, Head of Surgery Department of Huong Khe District General Hospital, Ha Tinh), Le Thi Dieu Trinh (30 years old, nursing staff of Huong Khe District General Hospital) and Phan Thi Phuong (32 years old, life insurance agent in Huong Khe District).
Doctor and nurse arrested by police to investigate insurance fraud
According to the police investigation documents, in 2021, while working as an employee of a commercial insurance agency, Phuong realized that paying insurance benefits to customers with broken bones and skull fractures was quite easy, so he planned to create fake medical records of customers under his management for personal gain.
To legalize the documents, Phuong contacted Dr. Hung, Head of Surgery Department of Huong Khe General Hospital and nurse Trinh to find patients with broken bones and skull fractures being treated at the hospital.
When there were patients, Phuong asked Dr. Hung and nurse Trinh to edit X-ray films and sign fake documents to create medical records based on the personal information of some customers who bought insurance at the agency.

When there was a fake profile, Phuong impersonated the customer and asked the insurance company to pay benefits.
During the process of reviewing crimes related to the insurance and health sectors in the area, the Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Police discovered Phuong's collusion with a number of doctors and nurses at Huong Khe District General Hospital.
According to the Investigation Agency, from 2021 to the end of 2023, Phuong's group created 8 fake medical records to make 17 insurance benefit payment requests, profiting with a total amount of more than 700 million VND.
The investigation agency has not yet announced the amount of money that Phuong agreed to share with Dr. Hung and Nurse Trinh when they agreed to cooperate in creating fake medical records to profit from insurance money. The Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tinh Province is continuing to expand the investigation of the case to identify other related suspects.
