Sesko and Mbeumo are under strict lockdown. |
In the 53rd minute, Coach Amorim decided to make a few changes. Casemiro and Amad came off to make way for Benjamin Sesko and Diogo Dalot. This allowed Mason Mount to drop deeper into central midfield, while Dalot provided more solidity at right-back.
Unfortunately, Sesko did not have many chances to finish, finishing the match with just 15 touches and no shots. Coach Marco Silva's decision to apply similar tactics to United at times meant the 22-year-old striker could not find space on the right flank, as he did in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last week.
Instead, Sesko spent most of his time between Joachim Andersen and Calvin Bassey, trying to get away from Andersen and attack Bassey's blind spot when the ball was pushed out wide.
Fulham's tight man-marking of Bryan Mbeumo (he had just six touches between the 45th and 70th minutes) limited the creative supply of the ball to the centre-forward.
In the last 10 minutes, Sesko tried very hard with the limited chances created by his teammates. But while the MU fans chanted "Attack, attack, attack!", the players on the field had difficulty getting the ball into the final third of the field.
Sesko is yet to score in the 2025/26 season. |
When he doesn’t have the ball, Sesko constantly looks back to see if Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo are joining in his pressing. Amorim’s new front three have great pace and technique, but will need time to work together. After two games, fans have only seen a tiny fraction of Sesko’s talent.
Closing the away match against Fulham, coach Amorim admitted that this was a difficult match. He said that when MU scored, the team forgot the right way to play and only thought about keeping the result.
Amorim affirmed: "We wanted to win so much that we forgot about controlling the ball and putting pressure on the opponent. We gave the game to Fulham", and admitted: "After the goal, I only thought about preserving the advantage. We are not allowed to do that".
