Discover Son Dien land

People of Son Dien commune preserve and promote traditional cultural values associated with tourism development.

Coming to Son Dien, tourists cannot miss the tourist destination of Ban Ngam. This is a land rich in historical and cultural traditions with a large population of Thai ethnic people. Coming to Ban Ngam, tourists will be immersed in the wild, airy space, listening to the murmuring of streams; going down the Luong River by raft to admire the natural beauty on both sides of the river and experiencing fishing activities with the local people; enjoying traditional dishes of the Thai ethnic people, such as: grilled fish, bamboo rice, steamed pork, grilled chicken, rock snails, purple sticky rice. In particular, tourists can also stay in traditional stilt houses, when night falls, they can light a campfire, drink rice wine, enjoy Thai xoe, Thai khap, folk songs and dances with rich identity performed by the local people.

Currently, Ngam village has 76 households, with nearly 400 people, mainly Thai ethnic people. In recent years, with the attention and investment of the State, along with the propaganda and mobilization of local authorities, some households in Ngam village have boldly invested capital to renovate, build stilt houses, purchase equipment to develop community tourism, and increase family income. Currently, Ngam village has about 20 households building accommodation facilities to serve tourists. In the first 5 months of 2025, Ngam village welcomed about 5,000 visitors to visit and experience.

Ms. Lu Thi Nguyen, one of the households doing tourism in Ngam village, said: "With the attention and encouragement of the local Party Committee and government, my family has renovated and built a stilt house, and renovated the area around the house to develop community tourism. At the same time, we actively participate in training courses on tourism and food hygiene and safety organized by the district and commune to improve the quality of service to the needs of tourists. Currently, my family can serve 30 guests and many tourist services. Thanks to the development of community tourism, my family has more income, creating jobs for some family members".

In 2019, Ngam village was recognized by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee as a provincial-level tourist destination. This is an important condition for Ngam village to develop community tourism, create jobs, and increase people's income. Currently, Ngam village is receiving attention from the State in building roads; solar power systems to better serve tourists when they come to visit and experience.

Along with Ngam village, Son Dien commune is also focusing resources on building roads to serve tourism development in Nhai village and Xuan Son village. At the same time, it promotes the preservation of traditional cultural identity among the people; establishes an art troupe to serve the needs of tourists, introduces and promotes the cultural beauty of the ethnic minorities here; and encourages people to actively participate in tourism training courses organized by the commune to gain more knowledge about community tourism. Thanks to that, the number of tourists visiting and experiencing Son Dien is increasing.

However, tourism development in Son Dien commune is still difficult, because the transport infrastructure has not been invested synchronously; the skills of local people in community tourism are still limited; the treatment of waste and wastewater has not ensured hygiene and environment; there have not been created typical products for tourists to buy as gifts for friends and relatives; the number of tourists staying at tourist attractions is still low... In particular, people lack capital to build infrastructure and develop quality services to serve the needs of tourists.

Mr. Pham Nhat Quang, Chairman of Son Dien Commune People's Committee, said: Determining tourism development as an important direction to create jobs and increase income for people, the commune continues to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to develop community tourism associated with preserving and promoting cultural identity. Strengthening the promotion of local potential and strengths to attract individuals and businesses to invest in local tourism projects. Focusing all resources on developing transport infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for tourists to travel. Focusing on training and fostering knowledge and skills in tourism for people. Directing villages to mobilize people to plant and raise specialty plants and animals to both serve the eating and drinking needs of tourists and increase income for people. Thereby, attracting a large number of tourists to Son Dien to visit and experience, contributing to promoting the beauty of Quan Son land and people.
