AI-powered Live Search delivers a personalized and fast experience.
Google recently introduced Search Live, a new search feature that allows users to interact with AI by voice in a continuous way, similar to chatting with the Gemini assistant.
This new feature is currently being tested in a limited way in the US under Google Labs' AI Mode program and is expected to expand globally soon.
Search Live is built as a stripped-down, more deeply integrated version of Gemini Live, but placed directly inside the Google Search app. To try it out, simply open the Google app on your iOS or Android phone, look for the “Live” icon on the interface, and tap it. A voice chat interface will appear, allowing you to start asking questions, making requests, or simply chatting to find information.
The most prominent and defining feature of the Search Live experience is the ability to maintain a conversation across multiple contexts. This means you don’t have to repeat information or ask a question from scratch with each new query.
Instead, the AI will remember the context of the previous conversation, allowing you to ask follow-up questions in a seamless and natural way. For example, after asking about the weather, you can follow up with "What about the weekend?" without having to repeat the location or relevant information.
ChatGPT Search will compete 'fiercely' with Google?
Another advantage of Search Live is its ability to work in the background. Users can continue to chat with Search Live's AI even while using another app on their phone, browsing the web, checking email, or even playing a game.
In the future, Google will add a camera feature to Search Live, allowing users to upload live images for AI to analyze and respond.
For example, you can point the camera at a flower to ask its name, or point it at a device to find instructions. This is a feature that already exists in Gemini Live, and bringing it to Search Live will synchronize the experience across Google's AI products, providing even more comprehensive and powerful multimodal interactions for users.
According to Google, the main goal of Search Live is to serve a wider group of users, especially those who are already very familiar with Google Search: Search Live helps to directly meet their information search needs, instead of requiring them to switch to a separate assistant application.
