On August 22, Hanoi National University and CT Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the goal of mastering semiconductor chip technology. At the event, a scientific workshop was held on “Ensuring security and autonomy of Vietnam’s chip manufacturing technology in the process of national digital transformation”.

Speaking at the event, CT Group Chairman Tran Kim Chung gave an example emphasizing the urgency of independence and autonomy in science and technology. Recently, the Cyberspace Administration of China questioned Nvidia about concerns about the H20 chip containing backdoors and being able to monitor remotely. Nvidia has also faced repeated questions about chips having tracking devices attached. China has also removed Western chips from its major hydroelectric plants. The world is also facing a new threat in the field of security: malware that operates at the CPU level, meaning it is able to hide deep in hardware and bypass most security solutions.

Currently, we are using foreign chips completely. This means that we can be interrupted at any time. We can also lose national data. Chairman of CT Group Tran Kim Chung

On the US side, they have also banned the use of Chinese-made chips in military equipment. Australia has also banned Chinese chip components in government networks.

“Today, no independence is truly independent if it is still dependent on technology. Vietnam is in the process of extremely strong digital transformation, at an unprecedented speed. However, this very fast and strong digital transformation is also opening up new problems,” said the Chairman of CT Group.

Mr. Tran Kim Chung continued to share: we have completed the first axis of digital transformation, which is citizens, and are starting with the second axis, which is organizations, and the third axis, the third channel, and the final channel, which is digital transformation on the ground, near-space, and multi-layer. Thus, on the third axis, the amount of data is much larger and the number of hardware devices involved is even larger. However, we are currently using entirely foreign chips. This means that there can be interruptions at any time. There can also be loss of national data. There can also be no initiative in emergency situations.

CT Group believes that, in the face of this issue, a higher vision is needed. First, it is necessary to master core technologies from design, production to commercialization of semiconductor chips. Second, it is necessary to create Made by Vietnam products to serve both the people, national defense, security and compete equally in the world market.

And above all, it is necessary to build an independent, self-reliant and strong semiconductor industry, laying the foundation for high technology, laying the foundation for national autonomy. Only then can Vietnam truly become the new semiconductor center of Southeast Asia, serving both the country and the world.

The Chairman of CT Group emphasized that to implement these issues, a strategic alliance between the State, schools and businesses is needed, a "three-house" model.

Also at the event, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of Hanoi National University, said that the cooperation with CT Group is a strategic milestone, realizing the spirit of "Accompanying - Creating - Developing" in connecting schools with businesses, knowledge with practice, research with production, training with the high-quality labor market.

Hanoi National University and CT Group will cooperate in training high-quality human resources, research and technology transfer, and accompany the implementation of applied research projects, especially in the fields of semiconductors, drones, AI, smart cities and clean energy.

The two sides will establish joint laboratories and innovation centers so that research and ideas from students and scientists can become valuable products and services that closely match market needs.
