Adam (from the US) and Kathryn (Canadian nationality) are a couple who are passionate about traveling and have been to many countries such as: Germany, Denmark, Finland, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam,...
On their personal YouTube channel with more than 220,000 followers, the couple regularly posts videos about their travel experiences in the places they have the opportunity to visit, attracting hundreds of thousands of views.
In Vietnam, Adam and Kathryn explored many famous destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Binh , Hanoi, etc. and enjoyed delicious dishes and specialties in each region.
The couple commented that Hanoi is one of the most wonderful culinary cities. Therefore, when they had the opportunity to visit here, the two guests took the opportunity to experience many delicious dishes, including beef pho.
Kathryn said that a Vietnamese tour guide introduced them to a long-standing pho restaurant on Bat Dan Street (Cua Dong Ward, Hoan Kiem District). This is a familiar dining place for both locals and tourists.
The restaurant opens from 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10:30pm, serving beef pho with 3 types: rare, well done and rare flank. Price from 50,000-60,000 VND/bowl.
This is also one of the most popular pho restaurants in Hanoi. Sometimes, the restaurant is so crowded that customers have to wait in line, order, pay at the counter, and bring their bowls of pho to their seats to enjoy.
Adam and Kathryn arrived at the pho restaurant in the evening. Even though they arrived quite early, the restaurant was already quite crowded. The line stretched from inside the restaurant to the sidewalk, and the surrounding seats were also full.
After ordering and finding a seat to enjoy, Kathryn was excited to experience the taste of Northern-style pho for the first time in the capital.
“We tried Southern-style pho in Ho Chi Minh City and heard people say Northern-style pho is a little different. I found the Northern pho noodles to be thicker and instead of serving many side dishes like Southern pho, here they only have coriander and green onions.
Another big difference is that the broth of Northern-style pho has the aroma of simmered beef bones, and is clearer and lighter," commented a Canadian female tourist.
Agreeing, Adam rated the Northern pho broth as very delicious, rich in flavor and with a distinctive beef aroma.
“The broth for Northern pho seems simpler than that of Southern pho. It has its own flavor, quite perfect and delicious,” he felt.
Kathryn admits it’s hard to say which pho is better. But personally, she finds southern pho sweeter than northern pho.
Adam, on the other hand, thought that Northern pho was more to his taste and preference. He was so excited that he finished the entire bowl of pho, slurping down the broth even though he felt a bit full from having enjoyed some street food.
In addition to being impressed by the taste of the pho, the two guests also enjoyed the cozy, crowded atmosphere with people waiting in long lines.
“The restaurant is quite crowded, so everyone sits close together and focuses on enjoying the food without feeling uncomfortable or awkward. I really like this,” Kathryn said.
