In a note to clients, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee said Apple could launch its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, in line with recent leaks and predictions.
“With limited upgrades to the iPhone 17 series, due out this fall, investors’ focus shifts to the fall 2026 launch, when Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone, as part of the iPhone 18 series in September 2026,” Chatterjee predicted.
The 'iPhone Fold' is expected to have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display, and one major advantage over Samsung's current foldable device: no crease.
Chatterjee expects a price of $1,999 . That’s down from his previous estimate of $2,100- $2,300 , but still nearly double the most expensive iPhone currently on the market. The new device could create a $65 billion revenue opportunity for Apple, contributing to “high single-digit” growth over the medium term.
Additionally, JPMorgan forecasts foldable iPhone sales to start at under 10 million in 2027 and reach around 45 million in 2028. Foldable smartphone sales in 2025 will reach around 19 million, so Apple's influence in the market could be significant.
When it comes to the impact of the foldable iPhone on the supply chain, Chatterjee cites hinge maker Amphenol and specialty glass supplier Corning as the main beneficiaries.
Both companies are poised for strong growth in 2025. Amphenol shares are up more than 50% year to date and Corning is up more than 30%, outpacing the S&P 500's 8% gain.
