According to the Spanish daily Marca , the Al-Nassr club's board of directors is planning to bring Mason Greenwood to Saudi Arabia. Notably, Cristiano Ronaldo, the team's biggest star and co-owner, also expressed his desire to reunite with his former teammate who played for Man United in the 2021-2022 season.
According to Fichajes, in addition to Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and newcomer Neom Sports Club are all willing to spend 80 million euros to own Mason Greenwood. If Marseille agrees, they will have the most expensive player sale in history, breaking the record held by Michy Batshuayi (39 million euros).
It must be known that Ronaldo's decision surprised many people when this junior had a conflict and publicly criticized him for being given priority at Man United when he returned in 2021.
Greenwood is currently attracting interest from many big European clubs, including Inter Milan. After being suspended from Man United for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in early 2022, Greenwood was acquitted but still not appreciated by the "Red Devils".
Ronaldo keeps an eye on Greenwood, despite being criticized by his juniors
If the deal goes through, Man Utd will profit from any transfer Marseille agree for the striker at 50% of the value.
In the 2023-2024 season, the striker born in 2001 was loaned to Getafe before moving to Marseille in the summer of 2024 with a 5-year contract. In the French team's shirt, Greenwood quickly regained his form and scored 22 goals in 36 matches, contributing greatly to Marseille winning the Ligue 1 runner-up position in the 2024-2025 season.
Despite being criticized by Greenwood as "out of date" after leaving Real Madrid in 2018 (as revealed by The Athletic), Ronaldo still wants the Jamaican-British player to join him at Al-Nassr to aim for a title this year for the club he owns.
