Authorities of Vinh Thuan town (Vinh Thuan district, Kien Giang province) handed over new, spacious houses to the poor, in the program to eliminate temporary houses by 2025...
"Tears" next to the dream house
The old house of Mrs. Tran Thi Lang (Ward 4, Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province) was built more than 26 years ago and had to be replaced with thatched walls and re-roofed many times to prevent leaks. Each time it was repaired, it was a difficult problem to find money. In recent years, due to her old age, she has not been able to work for hire, and her life depends on her daughter who works in Ho Chi Minh City and sends her 1.5 million VND per month; therefore, when the local authorities supported her with 60 million VND to build the house and help with many days of labor, Mrs. Lang was extremely happy. The day she moved into the new house, she cried and could not sleep because she was so happy.
For the past month, Ms. Vo Thi Quyt (71 years old, living in Vinh Thuan town, Vinh Thuan district, Kien Giang province) has been extremely happy to be able to move into a new house full of love given by the local government. Ms. Quyt is a poor household, has no job, no land to cultivate, and every day she picks vegetables and catches snails to sell at the market to earn money to buy rice. In recent years, due to her old age and poor health, she often gets sick and has to borrow money to pay for medicine. Daily food is already difficult, so whenever her makeshift house is damaged, she has to ask the authorities and benefactors to help with the repair costs. In March 2025, Ms. Quyt received good news of support to build a new house from the program "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses". Due to her lonely circumstances, the locality mobilized soldiers, youth, and women to dismantle the old house, then build a new foundation, support the construction of partitions, roofing, etc. Not long after, her dream house was completed. On the day of the handover, Mrs. Quyt shed tears of joy and happiness because in her old age she could live in a warm, loving house, without fear of collapse or leakage during storms.
Although he has officially moved into his new house for a few weeks now, Mr. Tran Hung Phuong (62 years old, residing in Vinh Phuoc 1 neighborhood, Vinh Thuan town, Vinh Thuan district) still does not believe it is true. His family is poor, so Mr. Phuong works as a motorbike taxi driver in the locality, earning 100,000-300,000 VND per day, sometimes only a few tens of thousands of VND on bad days, temporarily taking care of food and clothing. There are not many hired jobs in the countryside, so Mr. Phuong's wife has to travel to Binh Duong to help with housework, and the children also work hard to make a living. For decades, the family has lived in a temporary house and did not dare to dream of having a solid house. Thanks to the policy of "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in 2025, Mr. Phuong was considered for support of 60 million VND. Seeing that, his relatives contributed a little more to help the government build a spacious solidarity house. He said that every day when he drove home, he stood in front of the yard looking at his new house with happiness and gratitude, and then told himself to work hard, live well, and not let down the benefactors who helped him...
The day we arrived at the remote hamlet 7, Thoi Binh commune (Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province), although it was raining, the construction of a house of love for Ms. Le Thi Kieu (60 years old) was still being accelerated by the local authorities to be handed over in time for this June. Ms. Kieu shared that her family was in difficult circumstances, had no land and had to live in a temporary house, so a solid house was considered beyond her ability. Now, thanks to the government's attention, poor households like her can finally have a warm house, making their dream of settling down come true...
Community joins hands to eliminate temporary housing
As a locality with many difficulties and a large Khmer population, the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and housing care for people has always been of interest to the functional sectors of Tra Vinh province. Of the total construction cost of more than 61.6 billion VND, up to 40.6 billion VND comes from socialized sources, along with more than 2,500 working days, demonstrating the joint contributions of organizations, individuals, units, businesses, philanthropists... to this meaningful and deeply humane program. In rural areas, many localities have mobilized charitable organizations to contribute working days for construction, meals... to reduce costs and increase convenience for the houses. In Kien Giang, Mr. Vo Thanh Xuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Thuan town, Vinh Thuan district, said that in order to eliminate 42 temporary and dilapidated houses under the program in 2025, the most difficult thing is that some people do not have land to build. With the determination of "leaving no one behind", the functional sectors actively and widely propagated the noble meaning of this program, and at the same time mobilized people to help each other. Thanks to that, the program was completed earlier than the set target by the end of April 2025. It can be said that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses creates conditions for the poor to have stable housing, contributing to strengthening the criteria for building new rural areas of the locality.
Southern Power Corporation said that in 2025, the unit agreed not to organize a series of activities, anniversary events... to use these expenses to support the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 21 southern provinces and cities, about 315 houses, with an amount of 18.9 billion VND. To date, 700 houses for poor and near-poor households have been completed, achieving 100% of the set progress. |
