Tegan Michelle, a metabolic fat loss coach with more than 6,500 followers on Instagram, made headlines last week when she shared five morning tips to help her fat loss process more effectively.

"Your morning sets the tone for your entire day. If you want to lose fat, balance your hormones, and maintain your energy, start your day with intention," Michelle wrote in the caption of the video , which has been viewed 1.2 million times on social media.

Here are five habits Michelle suggests:

Start your day with lemon water or apple cider vinegar

Before drinking coffee, Michelle recommends drinking warm lemon water or water mixed with apple cider vinegar.

This drink helps stimulate digestion and "wake up" the intestines, supports detoxification, reduces bloating, alkalizes the body, supports the liver in eliminating toxins and stabilizes blood sugar.

Sunbathe early to absorb vitamin D

The second habit she suggests is getting some sunlight—both on your skin and in your eyes—within 30 minutes of waking up. Your body's circadian rhythm plays a big role in weight loss.

Absorbing natural light in the morning helps regulate metabolism, increase serotonin, balance cortisol hormone and improve sleep quality.

Gentle exercise

After a night of 6-8 hours of sleep, the body needs to be awakened by stretching, flexible movement or light yoga. This helps improve blood circulation, aids digestion, reduces muscle stiffness, inflammation and stress.

Eat a protein-rich breakfast

Coffee and a bagel are no longer a popular breakfast choice. If you're trying to lose weight, protein is a must, as a lack of protein can cause low blood sugar, cravings, and overeating.

A protein-rich breakfast helps keep you fuller longer, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and reduces unnecessary snacking and cravings.

Breathe, meditate and set intentions for the day

According to Michelle, fat loss is not only related to diet and exercise, but also closely linked to stress management. Chronic stress increases the hormone cortisol, which causes the body to accumulate belly fat.

So keeping your mornings peaceful through activities like breathing, meditation, and setting goals for the day will help reduce cortisol, while improving digestion and overall health.
