Paul Cox Industries is one of the more notable motorcycle custom teams. The New York-based shop has been around for about two decades, creating not only custom motorcycles but also knives and leather goods – all of which are instantly recognizable when Paul Cox is at work. The custom car we have here is no different. Nicknamed “Hot and Heavy,” it was built a while back for the Mohawk Group, the world’s largest flooring manufacturer. And given its origins, it carries a strange inspiration.
This is a one-of-a-kind creation, built on a custom rigid frame hand-built by Paul Cox Industries from scratch. At its heart is a 1966 Harley-Davidson engine. The engine is a classic configuration but finished with hand-blended aluminum parts at the seams and machine polished. The engine operates a 1-speed gearbox with electric starter. The bike sits on trellis wheels, with the front wheel supported by girder forks. A fender is slapped onto the rear wheel, and the same technique is used to build the fuel tank that sits atop the frame.
Hot and Heavy made headlines late last month, when auction house Barrett-Jackson announced it would be auctioning it in mid-October 2025 in Scottsdale, Arizona. This happened because the people who ordered the car, Mohawk Group, decided to part with it not for personal gain but for charity. The car is for sale without a reserve price, meaning it will be offered to anyone willing to bid, regardless of value.
Regardless of the amount raised, all proceeds will be donated to Tunnel to Towers, "a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting U.S. veterans, first responders, and their families." It is predicted that the auction price of this classic configuration 1966 Harley-Davidson Hot and Heavy will be not small. It will certainly attract motorcycle enthusiasts and two-wheeled vehicle enthusiasts.
