Many activities welcome first graders on the first day of the new school year.
According to VTC News Electronic Newspaper reporters at Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, Saigon Ward, parents took their children to class early in the morning.
Ms. My Dung, who has two children studying at the school, shared that her children are entering first grade so the whole family is excited. This morning, four family members woke up early to prepare to take their children to school.

Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School organized many activities to welcome first graders on the first day of school.
As soon as they arrive at school, students are welcomed by their teachers. Each homeroom teacher has a beautifully decorated check-in table with many lovely gifts for their students. Activities such as performing arts, magic shows, souvenir photos, etc. make the students excited on their first day at their new school.

To help their children feel less confused when entering first grade, in addition to preparing books, many parents also teach their children to recognize letters without putting pressure on them. Ms. Uyen shared that the most important thing is to encourage their children to be confident and not anxious in a new environment.
“ My son and I were restless all night. In the morning, my friend asked me if I was late and if I was stuck at the flagpole. I was also nervous and worried that my son wouldn’t be able to adapt, but this morning when I went to school, I saw him happy, so I thought he would be fine, ” said Ms. Uyen.

Parents take their children to school early to help them get used to the new learning environment.
Ms. Do Ngoc Chi, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, said that this year the school has 10 first grade classes with 349 students. To welcome the students, the school organized the “Happy to Go to School” festival with the theme “Today, I am in first grade”.
During the school opening days, students will participate in activities to get acquainted with the school, teachers, and friends, while practicing the routine of living and studying at primary school.

This morning, students in grades 1, 9 and 12 in Ho Chi Minh City officially returned to school, 2 days earlier than the general schedule of the whole country. The remaining grades will gather together on August 25.

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that the education sector nationwide operates in the context of changing administrative boundaries and implementing a two-tier local government model. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, after the merger, the city will become an "educational megacity" with a scale of more than 3,500 public and non-public educational institutions at all levels, from preschool to high school.
The total number of students this school year in Ho Chi Minh City exceeded 2.5 million, an increase of more than 39,600 students compared to the previous school year, continuing to lead the country in terms of student size. Specifically, preschool has 478,458 students; primary school has 939,002 students; secondary school has 759,278 students and high school has 352,051 students.
