Good students should have many directions for self-development, instead of being "framed" by scores.

Why good students should not be limited by scores

According to many psychologists and high schooleducation experts in Ho Chi Minh City, excellent students often have a solid academic foundation, sharp critical thinking and a high sense of self-discipline. However, some traditional “specialized” environments that previously focused on exams and “solving questions” may have overlooked other important aspects such as creativity, teamwork or leadership skills - essential competencies in the 21st century.

An education expert in Ho Chi Minh City analyzed: “Many students are good but are limited if the environment only focuses on testing knowledge. When they go to university or work, they will face difficulties because they lack practical skills and the ability to adapt to a multidimensional environment.”

Therefore, today's students need a flexible learning environment, where learning is not just about learning, but about application; where they are allowed to choose subjects, choose research directions and embark on individual or group projects, thereby developing more comprehensively.

A study published in the International Journal for Talent Development and Creativity (2023 - 2024) asserts that creativity is as essential to the education of gifted students as academic knowledge. Rather than focusing solely on test results, effective teaching strategies should stimulate creative thinking and the ability to think outside the box in all subjects. When taught in environments that encourage questioning, trial and error, gifted students are better able to develop critical thinking and creativity, skills that are fundamental to the 21st century.

The study also highlights the important role of teachers in unlocking creative thinking. Teachers do not stop at imparting knowledge, but also create a safe psychological space, encouraging students to boldly explore and implement their own ideas. Such an environment helps gifted students maximize their potential.

South Australia Scotch AGS gives students comprehensive development opportunities , conquering the world's top 1% universities

International environment for excellent students

The SACE program at Scotch AGS South Australia is a prime example of that choice. Rather than being pigeonholed into the concept of “specialisation”, Scotch AGS South Australia offers an open learning system.

Dr Christopher Poole-Johnson, deputy principal of Scotch AGS, said that from Year 10, students are taught Research Practice, choosing their own topics, planning and reporting results. This is the first step to help them develop critical thinking skills, time management and presenting ideas, abilities that are often neglected in the traditional certificate environment.

From grades 11-12, the program is expanded with career-oriented subject groups: Engineering, Medicine, Business, Arts. Students freely choose subjects and combine multidisciplinary knowledge, carry out practical projects (technical - social - media simulations...). Their achievements are evaluated through 70% of the score from the learning process, only 30% from the final exam.

Each student receives a personal academic advisor, who helps them design their study path, develop their study abroad profile, and develop their personal strengths. This is a big plus for students with strong academic personalities and a desire for a clear, systematic study path.

In fact, the first generation of South Australian Scotch AGS has received many invitations from top universities in the world (Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Europe...). Typically in the US, many students received admission letters to highly ranked universities such as Tufts University, University of Florida, SUNY Buffalo, Drexel University, UMass Boston, Case Western Reserve University and Boston University. In Australia, many students were accepted to prestigious universities in the Go8 group.

Not taking the specialized exam does not mean that you are not good; taking the specialized exam is not the only way. The important thing is that students learn properly, in accordance with their abilities, have a development environment and are guided to realize their passion.

Currently, the school is welcoming the next generation of talented students to participate in the AGS Talent program with attractive scholarships of up to 70% exclusively for grade 10 students with outstanding profiles and passing the interview round.
