After a decade of not being able to beat the Vietnamese team, Malaysia has "transformed" with a quality naturalized squad that convincingly defeated Mr. Kim Sang Sik's students 4-0 in the match last night (June 10). A loss to "awaken" us about how to rebuild the team as well as the direction of VFF for the future of Vietnamese football.

Speaking at a press conference after the match with the Malaysian team in the second match of Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers, head coach Kim Sang Sik sent a sincere apology to Vietnamese fans and affirmed the team's determination towards the next matches.

Coach Kim Sang Sik expressed: “I feel sorry for the Vietnamese fans who traveled a long way to Malaysia as well as all the fans watching on TV. In the first half, we still maintained the game as planned, but in the second half, after two central defenders were injured, the team had difficulty organizing the defense and implementing the game, this was one of the reasons leading to the defeat.”

Assessing Malaysia's strong rise after the AFF Cup 2024, coach Kim Sang Sik frankly admitted: "We have to admit that Malaysia has become significantly stronger thanks to naturalized players. However, football always has miracles. If we prepare well for the rematch in Hanoi , I think we still have a chance to make up for the four goals we lost today."

Coach Kim Sang Sik also shared about the players' not-so-perfect physical condition after playing in the V-League. "The initial plan was to keep a clean sheet in the first half to create opportunities for attacking players like Quang Hai and Tien Linh to explode in the second half. However, due to injuries in the defense, we could not operate the game as planned. In addition, the opponent performed beyond expectations despite careful analysis by the coaching staff."

Coach Kim SangSik and his team will have to make a lot of effort in the second leg match on March 31, 2026. The possibility of Vietnam getting a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup is very slim as this group only takes 1 team.
