More than 1,600 meca or wooden fish with shimmering ocean blue colors create a vibrant flow in the "Fish Waves" themed space. |
Inspired by the livelihood, folk beliefs and the close bond between fishermen and the sea, “The Story of a Fishing Village” is divided into four main thematic clusters: Fish Waves, Going Offshore, Salty Flavors and Mural Garden.
Among them, “Fish Waves” is a prominent work with more than 1,600 meca or wooden fish in ocean blue, designed to change colors shimmeringly like a dreamy flow. The work is 4.5m high, 5.7m long and 5.5m wide, symbolizing the flow of dreams, vitality and revival from the ocean. The attached blue LED system creates a magical space like the rhythm of the ocean at night, where each wave is a challenge, each basket overcoming the waves is a song of victory.

In addition, “Going offshore” depicts the arduous journey of fishermen to find fish, expressing their courage and aspiration to rise up. The sails filled with wind, the boats setting sail at dawn or returning at dusk are all vividly simulated through lighting effects and artistic composition, evoking the indomitable spirit of coastal residents.
“We hope that through these installations, we will not only create highlights for the festival but also send a message about community cohesion, love for our homeland and islands, and pride in local culture,” said a representative of the Organizing Committee.

“Salty Flavor” is not simply an art installation but also a place to connect emotions. |
Continuing the emotional flow, the theme cluster “Salty Flavor” creates a calming stop with the image of concentric circles symbolizing the cycle of survival between humans and the ocean. With a diameter of up to 15m, this area is arranged from 100 oars, 50 earthenware jars, 30 baskets and 50 bamboo trees with diagonal flags. All create rhythmic rolling waves, recreating the fish drying yard and the bustling life of a fishing village on peaceful afternoons.
In particular, the “Mural Garden” is a place where painting and installation intersect, creating a visual space filled with colors. The paintings are not only for viewing but also “tell stories”, like an extended memory book recreating the daily life of the fishing village from the oars, the fish to the sincere smiles of the fishermen.

In addition to the visual installations, “The Story of the Fishing Village” is made more vivid with performances of “Ba Trao” singing, a unique folk art form associated with the worship of Whale and the traditional fishing ceremony. The nights at the Man Thai sea are made more magical with the sounds of drums, gongs, and sacred songs mixed with the sound of the waves.
In addition, traditional musical instrument concerts held from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every night during the festival (June 19-23, 2025) also contribute to creating a multi-layered artistic space imbued with the cultural identity of the Central coastal region.
