The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to July 29 in Indonesia. In this tournament, U23 Vietnam is the defending champion. Therefore, the mission of coach Kim Sang Sik's team is to successfully defend the championship title and prepare for the U23 Asian qualifiers.

In this tournament, U23 Vietnam will be in the same group with two Indochinese teams, U23 Cambodia and U23 Laos.

Commenting on the opponents of U23 Vietnam, Coach Kim Sang Sik assessed U23 Thailand and U23 Indonesia as the main opponents. The Korean strategist shared on the homepage of the Southeast Asian Football Federation: “According to what I have learned and observed, Thailand and Indonesia will be the main opponents of U23 Vietnam.

Thailand stands out with good technique and organization, while Indonesia has impressive physical strength and speed. The matches between U23 Vietnam and these two opponents are very tense and dramatic. Therefore, we need to prepare carefully."

Notably, in the two most recent Southeast Asian U23 tournaments, U23 Vietnam defeated U23 Thailand (in 2021) and U23 Indonesia (in 2023) to win the tournament championship.

Talking about U23 Vietnam winning the tournament twice in a row, Coach Kim Sang Sik shared: “Winning the U23 Southeast Asian Championship twice in a row is a great source of pride for us. However, instead of putting pressure on the whole team, we want to focus on showing ourselves in every match.

I encourage players to see this tournament as an opportunity to develop and grow, rather than just aiming for results. When you reach a high level, good results will come naturally.

The U23 Southeast Asian Championship is not just a competition for titles. The tournament also allows me to evaluate the ability of each player and strengthen the bond. For the young players, they will have a good experience in the international tournament."
