HAPPY AND SAD DARK CORNER
This is the theme that the units will use to participate in the 5th National Professional Theater Festival on the Image of the People's Public Security Soldier - 2025 held in Hanoi at the end of June (the closing ceremony of the festival is scheduled to take place on the evening of July 7 at the Hoan Kiem Theater). Although the theme is completely different from the business criteria of the theaters and the difficulty in staging and performing, the released works have made an impression and succeeded in their diverse expression, without being stereotyped, rigid or heavily "propagandistic".
Hong Van Theater has the play Another War (author Tong Phuong Dung, director Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat) boldly going into the negativity of the medical industry, the act of putting human lives on an unjust string, as long as it gains money and fame. Doctor Hoa (played by Lam Vy Da) discovers this network, she and her husband, police captain Minh Kien (Minh Luan) infiltrate the criminal group. Hoa and her family members almost lost their lives because of them... Lam Vy Da surprised, because she is a familiar comedic face on both game shows and stage, just stepping on stage makes the audience laugh, but this time she plays a serious dramatic role very well. The special play also has real-life, attractive scenes of fighting between police and criminals, making the audience exclaim.

Quoc Thao Theater surprised everyone by putting mostly young actors in the play, some of whom had just graduated from Quoc Thao's training course. The play Deep Night (author and director Quoc Thao) deals with the hot issue of human trafficking across the border under the guise of a job creation company or fashion show. The play has many difficult scenes such as rape, fighting, and prison breaks, but Quoc Thao's skills are very solid and the young actors performed very well. The fierceness and appeal kept the audience engaged throughout the play.
Truong Hung Minh Stage also "changed the wind" dramatically when from its forte of comedy, it now presents a serious crime play, Emotional Reunion (author Hoai Huong, director Le Quoc Nam). From the beginning, the play captivated the audience with curiosity and tension that lasted throughout the play. Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi broke away from the familiar comedy to play the tragic and pitiful twin brothers Trung and Hieu - a new and exciting experience for the audience. The famous actress Binh Tinh of the traditional opera village transformed into the police captain Thuy Duong with a commendable temperament and demeanor.
There is also the play Sugar-Coated Bullet by HN Media Communication and Entertainment Company with a thrilling anti-drug theme.

The common point of the plays is to depict the image of the police officer with the hidden corners of joy and sadness behind the glorious achievements. Each person carries a secret of themselves or their family that is not easy to reveal or justify. In the play Deep Night , Lieutenant Colonel Hong Thai and his wife are both police officers and are often away from home, to the point that their son has degenerated in loneliness and become a criminal. Policewoman Thuy Duong in Emotional Reunion hides the pain when her lover and comrade risked his life to protect her, but when the opportunity arises to express it, the pain bursts into painful cries. Despite their specific profession, they are also human, with their own circumstances and burdens - the scripts that reveal this help the audience feel the characters are closer and more real.
In staging a work about a police officer, in addition to the heroic epic for the country, there are also profound humane melodies. Southern theater, with its simplicity, has been able to do that.
OVERCOMING DIFFICULTIES TO… PASS THE EXAM
Previously, southern stages rarely participated in festivals organized in the north, because they were self-funded units, having to calculate every penny of budget, especially in the current difficult situation. But this time, the participation was more exciting, People's Artist Hong Van said: "The organizing committee promised to support 100 million VND for each play, which was also an encouragement, so we tried to arrange it. Actually, that money was only enough to stage the play, the remaining costs for airfare, travel, hotel, food for the whole group of dozens of people were about 100 million more. Luckily, I found a sponsor for the hotel, so I was a little less worried."
Director Quoc Thao shared another difficulty: "We were also tired of looking for police uniforms. These are difficult costumes to make and borrow because of strict regulations. Luckily, there is a film crew that lends them. Try to participate so that the young people have the opportunity to rub shoulders and grow up." Quoc Thao has many students, and the "teacher" has shouldered the costs for the children.
The plays really made a good impression. I think that after the festival, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City should have funds for the performing units to serve, not wasting the effort spent. Every year, the Department provides funds for a certain unit to stage plays for service, it can immediately take these plays to invest, both quickly and economically.
