Phu Bai Farmers' Association forms effective collective production models, creating jobs for many workers.

The traditional incense stick production group in Phu Bai ward was established with 23 members. These are family members who take advantage of their free time to produce incense sticks, earning about 5 million VND/person/month. Thanks to that, many members of the group have additional income to invest in their children's education.

Ms. Phan Thi Chi, a member of the group, said: Up to now, the group has borrowed capital from the Farmers Support Fund for 3 cycles, with 750 million VND to develop production. In addition, the Farmers' Association (FA) of the ward also coordinates to open technical training classes on splitting incense sticks in a demonstration way to serve experiential tourism , community tourism, etc.

With the actual situation of the locality after the merger, the Farmers' Association of Phu Bai Ward has stepped up propaganda and mobilized farmer members to change the structure of crops and livestock according to market demand; develop farm and family economy , build models of concentrated commodity production, associated with processing and consumption of products, form and develop collective and linked economic models. Up to now, the locality has established a Traditional Craft Production Group for Slicing Incense Sticks, a Thanh Tra Specialty Tree Cooperative Group, a Cow Breeding Linkage Group and a Club of Good Farmers in Production and Business. Thereby, creating conditions for cadres and farmer members to carry out emulation movements well, contributing to the implementation of the Party and State's guidelines and policies, as well as the targets and tasks set forth by the Resolution of the Ward Party Congress.

Since the Thanh Tra Specialty Tree Cooperative was established with 20 participating households, some members of the group are core members of the Hue Thanh Tra Association to implement geographical indication procedures, growing area codes and traceability for Thanh Tra fruit. Mr. Le Phong, a member of the group, shared: “After joining the cooperative, we learned from experience, helped each other in production, intensive farming, participated in training courses, and transferred science and technology to apply in planting and care to improve the quantity and quality of Thanh Tra specialty fruit products and have become the main local product meeting 3-star OCOP standards”.

According to Vice Chairman of Phu Bai Ward Farmers’ Association Nguyen Cuu Tuan, with the characteristics of the new ward including hilly areas, the locality has determined to change the structure of crops and livestock towards family farms and ranches to promote economic development. Accordingly, the local Farmers’ Association has focused on leading, propagating, and mobilizing farmer members to promote the change towards the production of key crops such as acacia forests, medicinal plants, fruit trees, etc. to bring higher economic efficiency.

Responding to the new production movement, after promoting emulation activities, there have been typical examples of farmers in transforming production and business. These include members Tran Xuan Minh Thanh and Le Van Hung with a hill garden model growing green-skinned grapefruit and pomelo, combined with homestay accommodation services; member Le Van Tan planted 10ha of forest, 5,000m2 of pomelo trees and invested in a rice milling machine to provide services; member Nguyen Cuu Giang planted 10ha of FSC large timber forest, supplying agricultural materials to farmers... Thereby, forming stable and effective production and business models, creating jobs for many workers, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
