Implementing the province's Project on converting ineffective corn-growing land to high-value crops and livestock in the 2023-2025 period, Quan Ba district strives to convert 1,500 hectares to crops and livestock with higher economic value. At the same time, reorganize agricultural production in some areas and regions to exploit the advantages of land and natural conditions of each locality, facilitate sustainable agricultural development, form specialized and commodity production areas; link production with processing and consumption of products according to the value chain, increase the value of crop products to 65 million VND/ha/year; form concentrated commodity production areas, make intensive investment, apply new varieties and production processes with high productivity and quality; clearly identify advantageous crops with stable consumption markets...

To achieve the above objectives, the district identifies conversion areas in accordance with the planning, land use plan, socio-economic development plan and crop structure conversion plan; selects appropriate crop types, variety structure, season, care techniques, and intensive cultivation, ensuring sustainability, closely following market demand, exploiting the advantages of soil, climate, and farming techniques of the people, bringing higher economic value; forms pilot models on the strengths of each locality as typical examples for demonstration, study, propaganda, and experience sharing; makes the most effective use of capital from national target programs and local capital to promote the rural economy... Focus on developing areas producing medicinal plants, vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quan Ba district, in order to complete the objectives set out in the Project on converting ineffective corn-growing land to high-value crops and livestock, every year, the district develops a plan with specific objectives and tasks for communes, towns and specialized sectors; effectively implements propaganda and mobilization work for people to focus on converting to growing temperate fruit trees such as seedless persimmons, peaches, pears, plums or vegetables, fruits... As a result, after 2 years, the whole district has converted over 1,500 hectares of ineffective corn-growing land to other crops. Of which, over 170 hectares have been completely converted to growing fruit trees, tea and specialized vegetables; over 1,355 hectares of Summer-Autumn corn-growing land have been converted to growing peanuts, soybeans, chili, tomatoes, cucumbers... The average harvest value reached over 100 million VND/ha.
Vice Chairman of Quan Ba District People's Committee, Pham Ngoc Pha said: The effectiveness of converting crop structure on inefficient corn-growing land combined with reasonable crop arrangement based on exploiting the potential and strengths of climate and soil has affirmed that it is the right direction of the province and district to increase production value. In practice, in the district, there have been conversion models that have brought about outstanding economic efficiency in Quyet Tien, Quan Ba, Tam Son town, Tung Vai, Dong Ha... In which, the highest efficiency is switching to growing cucumbers and tomatoes in the form of linking production with product consumption, bringing an average cultivation value of about 250 million VND/ha/crop.
The conversion of ineffective corn-growing land to other crops in Quan Ba not only contributes to effectively exploiting local strengths and creating jobs for rural workers, but is also opening up prospects for agricultural production, gradually forming a specialized, concentrated, and sustainable commodity production area of the district in the future.
