The environmental sanitation campaign to protect the hometown river, organized by Ninh Kieu District Youth Union in coordination with Anh Mai Sports Service Trading Company Limited - The Green Paddle, last weekend, attracted more than 200 union members, youths and local residents. Volunteers were equipped with stand-up paddle boards (SUP) to approach difficult-to-treat garbage accumulation points on Khai Luong canal, Cai Khe canal, the river section from Rach Ngong 1 bridge to Rach Ngong 2 bridge. This is a combination to encourage the development of water sports models associated with environmental responsibility in the city. The district's youth expect the joint activities between mass organizations, the participation of businesses and local residents to contribute to arousing the spirit of responsibility for the community, creating a sustainable living environment. The Green Paddle commits to accompany the Youth Union in organizing regular “Rowing for the Green River” events, free rowing classes, creating community living spaces, communicating environmental protection, and spreading healthy lifestyles. The project is also part of a 3-year socialization pilot project (2025-2028), creating a highlight for the development of sustainable ecotourism and sports.
According to Ms. Pham Thai Thu, Secretary of Ninh Kieu District Youth Union, the new way of combining sports with volunteer activities has attracted young people to participate in environmental protection. Recently, the district's youth have also implemented many models to participate in building urban civilization, such as "Youth 3 Volunteers" (building urban civilization, social order and safety, taking care of social security), "Safe - green - clean" roads (alleys). Youth Union bases regularly organize activities to preserve green - clean - beautiful landscapes, associated with propaganda and dissemination of laws on environmental protection, the peak of which is in the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign. These activities contribute to creating changes in awareness and consciousness of young people in building a civilized urban lifestyle, forming habits of maintaining hygiene and a green lifestyle.
During the launching week of the Summer Youth Union Campaign, 100% of units under the City Youth Union organized at least 1 response activity, focusing on activities to care for social security, volunteer to build new rural areas and urban civilization. In particular, the "Digital Education for the People" movement was widely deployed, with activities to guide people on digital transformation, safe use of social networks and basic office software. Typically, the Faculty of Pharmacy - Nursing Youth Union of Tay Do University organized to guide people in Hung Phu ward (Cai Rang district) to install electronic payment applications and how to use online public services. Meanwhile, the Youth Union of Can Tho University of Technology and Engineering established a volunteer team to teach free IT to hamlet and area cadres and students during the summer; Training on civilized and safe use of social networks and activities to repair roads and install public lighting systems - which have been the strengths of the school's youth for many years...
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign in late May 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, noted that all levels of the Youth Union and Association need to continue promoting the role of young people in participating in socio -economic development, especially in difficult areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas. Strengthen inter-sectoral coordination to mobilize maximum resources, creating favorable conditions for young people to contribute and mature during the campaign. Ensure absolute safety for volunteers throughout the deployment process, especially when operating in areas with complex geography or weather. Closely link volunteer activities, education on life ideals, sense of responsibility and aspiration to contribute to the young generation.
The Youth Union Summer Campaign will take place from the end of May to the end of August 2025, including 1 program (Supporting the exam season) and 4 campaigns (Green Summer, Red Flamboyant, Green March, Pink Vacation). Can Tho City Youth Union has set 12 targets to strive for, typically carrying out at least 20 youth projects and tasks to welcome Party Congresses at all levels; supporting foreign language skills and international integration for 4,000 young union members and children; building 10 houses for people in difficult circumstances; providing career counseling and job referrals for at least 15,000 young union members; striving to introduce at least 200 outstanding union members who are volunteers for the Party to consider and admit.
