On July 21, Ms. D.TY (residing in Pong Drang commune, Dak Lak province) said she had just received a notice from Phan Dang Luu High School about the verification results of her complaint regarding extra martial arts teaching.
Students think that going to martial arts school will give them preferential treatment in physical education tests?
Previously, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper had an article about Ms. D.TY (a parent of Phan Dang Luu High School) who sent a petition to reflect that the two physical education teachers who organized extra martial arts classes in the school had many irregularities. In particular, any student who took extra martial arts classes from the two teachers would be "taken lightly" in physical education, and would be classified as passing and vice versa.
Phan Dang Luu High School where parents reported that extra martial arts classes have many irregularities
Not only Ms. Y. spoke with reporters, many parents also confirmed that Ms. Y.'s petition accurately reflected reality. The parents said that the incident had happened many years ago but no one dared to speak up for fear of affecting their children.
According to the verification results of Phan Dang Luu High School, the school did not organize extra martial arts classes but allowed teachers to bring students into the school yard to teach martial arts. The organization of martial arts classes was based on the permission of the Dak Lak Karate Association and the agreement between parents and teachers. In total, each student paid 2.3 million VND for 9 months of study.
However, during the teaching process, the two teachers had unclear words, leading to misunderstandings among the students. Maybe the students thought that if they went to martial arts school, they would be favored in the physical education test and assessment.
Regarding the student opinion survey, Phan Dang Luu High School said that because it was summer vacation, only 11 students were surveyed. Therefore, there was not enough basis to confirm that the teachers had suggested or created more favorable conditions for students to participate in martial arts. Previously, speaking with reporters, Mr. Le Van Tho, Principal of Phan Dang Luu High School, said that the school had prepared a questionnaire, extracted the content of Ms. Y's reflection to ask the students, some students marked "yes", some marked "no".
From there, Phan Dang Luu High School concluded that Ms. Y's reflection had correct content about the incident, and some content was baseless, and the words and figures were estimates.
All students who attend extra martial arts classes pass physical education.
In the notice responding to Ms. Y's petition, Phan Dang Luu High School provided 2 figures about the number of students learning martial arts with 2 physical education teachers!
Although Phan Dang Luu High School surveyed 11 students, it did not state the results in the announcement.
Specifically, the survey table is divided into columns showing that there are a total of 99 students in 16 classes taught by 2 physical education teachers who went to learn martial arts. Meanwhile, in the assessment section of the results after the test, this school wrote "The number of students participating in martial arts is 143"!
Another noteworthy point is that the survey shows that a total of 99 students who went to martial arts classes were all rated as passing in physical education. Meanwhile, the number of students who were taught by these two teachers but were rated as failing in physical education was 38 and they did not go to martial arts classes.
Regarding the handling, Phan Dang Luu High School requested the two physical education teachers to review their experiences before the Pedagogical Council for having unclear words and inappropriate behavior. At the same time, review the emulation and reward results of the two teachers in the 2024-2025 school year and stop organizing martial arts classes in the school yard.
Will appeal the verification results
According to Ms. D.TY, she and some parents do not agree with the school's verification results. Therefore, she will continue to file a complaint to the authorities to request a resolution.
"Many issues I suggested have not been clarified in the verification results announcement. For example, the results of the student survey and the results of the work with the parent group were not mentioned. In addition, the data on students participating in martial arts classes is inconsistent and unreliable," said Ms. Y.
