Havertz's injury poses a major challenge for Arsenal. |
The Athletic reported that the German international missed training on August 20 due to a knee injury. Arsenal’s medical team have not been able to determine the exact length of the 26-year-old’s absence, but early indications suggest that Havertz could be sidelined for an extended period.
Havertz also suffered a serious knee injury in February and will be out until the end of the 2024/25 season. Arsenal's medical team are concerned that the striker will have a recurrence of the knee injury, a problem that often causes nightmares for many professional players.
As such, new signing Viktor Gyokeres is currently the only healthy striker for coach Mikel Arteta. Gabriel Jesus is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January and is not expected to return until early 2026.
Havertz's injury has left Arsenal in an attacking crisis and they are likely to have to sign a new player to make up for it. In the Premier League opener against Manchester United, Havertz came on for Gyokeres in the 60th minute.
Since moving from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer of 2023, the German has made 88 appearances and scored 29 goals, and is considered by Arteta as a quality option for the centre-forward position. Despite Arsenal's recruitment of Gyokeres, Arteta has repeatedly stressed that Havertz is still considered for the centre-forward position in the attack.
