According to the announcement of the Korean Ministry of Defense , this is the first CYTREX exercise since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, aiming to improve the ability to respond to cyber threats.

The exercise included investigation of multiple cyber attacks, as well as malware analysis in a simulated environment, marking the first time countries have participated in cyber training based on cross-border interconnected networks.

Established in 2010, ADMM+ is a platform that allows ASEAN member countries and eight dialogue partners including South Korea, China, the US, Japan, Russia, India, Australia and New Zealand to strengthen cooperation in the field of defense and security.

Regarding cooperation in the field of cyber security, in early October, the Japan Information Security Association and 8 ASEAN countries including Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation at the ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security Community International Conference in Tokyo.

Under the agreement, ASEAN cybersecurity companies will introduce and share their business operations experience with Japanese companies with the aim of promoting new partnerships.

On the Japanese side, the Government of Japan supports professional development for the governments of ASEAN member countries through training programs at the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Center in Bangkok (Thailand), chaired by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan.

In the first half of this year, global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky prevented a total of 44,022 malware attacks on small and medium-sized businesses in Southeast Asia, a sharp increase from 9,482 attacks in the same period in 2022.
