(Dan Tri) - One of the goals set by the Hanoi education sector for the next school year is that every student after graduating from high school will know how to play at least one musical instrument.

On the morning of August 20, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, reported on the achievements and goals of the capital's education at the conference to summarize the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year.

One of the notable results is that Hanoi is in the leading group in the 2025 high school graduation exam in many criteria: high school graduation rate reached 99.75%; the number of schools with 100% graduation rate is 200 schools, an increase of 24 schools compared to 2024; 3 national valedictorians achieved 30/30 points; leading the country in average English score; leading the country in the number of 10 points (1,583 10 points)...

In addition, the rate of students passing the 10th grade public school entrance exam in Hanoi has increased sharply, reaching approximately 70% with the establishment of two new public high schools, Phuc Thinh and Do Muoi.

The whole city has nearly 3,000 schools from kindergarten to high school, of which 80% meet national standards, 4 specialized schools and 23 high-quality schools.

Among the key tasks of the new school year 2025-2026, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training focuses on developing artistic talents for Hanoi students, striving for each high school graduate to be able to play at least one musical instrument. At the same time, Hanoi will gradually make English the second language in schools.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong - Permanent Deputy Secretary of Hanoi City - highly appreciated the results achieved by the education sector in the past year.

He also emphasized that making English the second language in schools is a mandatory task that must be carried out in accordance with the commitment when Hanoi joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. This does not distinguish between inner-city and suburban schools.

Regarding the issue of schools after organizing two-level local government, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong suggested that the Department of Education and Training coordinate with relevant units to promptly review the school network planning to suit the new context, avoiding local surpluses and shortages.

Mr. Phong cited an example of a locality planning to build two primary schools next to each other with the reason that “it must be done to meet standards”. Some communes far from the inner city, with a small population, have 2-3 primary and secondary schools.

From this reality, he suggested that schools should be re-planned to ensure the interests of students and avoid waste. “Students’ interests should not be traded for unreal achievements,” said the Standing Deputy Secretary of Hanoi City.
