According to Xinhua news agency, receiving Mr. Shoigu on August 5 in Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that expanding relations with Russia is one of the priorities in the foreign policy of this Islamic Republic.

Stressing the need to accelerate the implementation of previously signed bilateral agreements, Pezeshkian described Russia as Iran's strategic partner, one of the countries that stood by Tehran in difficult days.

"We affirm that the era of unilateralism pursued by some world powers is over and that Iran-Russia unification of positions and cooperation towards promoting a multilateral world will certainly lead to the improvement of global security and peace ," the new Iranian president said.

The leader also stressed the importance of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the region and the world .

According to Sputnik news agency, in Tehran, Mr. Shoigu will also hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Chief of the General Staff of the host country's armed forces Mohammad Bagheri.

The visit of Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu took place in the context of the situation in the Middle East being hotter than ever and less than a week after the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh while he was visiting Tehran.

Russia has “strongly condemned” the assassination of Mr Haniyeh and warned of the “extremely dangerous consequences of such actions”.

Iran and the resistance forces such as Houthi, Hezbollah and Hamas blamed Israel for the incident and Israel is preparing to respond to a potential attack from Iran and the above movements.
