On August 24, the event "Korea-Vietnam Global Exchange" was solemnly held at the Chunghyodang relic site in Bongseong commune, Bonghwa district, North Gyeongsang province, where relics of the Ly family of Vietnam are preserved.

The event was hosted by Bonghwa District, the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnamese Ly Family in Korea to strengthen the foundation of cooperation and exchange between local authorities and people of Vietnam and Korea.

The event includes the topping out ceremony of the Community Center, Vietnam Cultural Day and the installation ceremony of the statue of King Ly Thai To at the Vietnamese village space in Bonghwa.

The event was attended by about 800 people, including Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong, officials from the Ministry of Culture of Korea and North Gyeongsangbuk Province, Bonghwa County Chairman Park Hyeon Guk, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho, and Vietnamese Consul General in Busan Doan Phuong Lan.

In addition, there were also representatives of Vietnamese associations and a large Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Korea.

Previous events have included cultural performances by traditional art troupes and the Vietnamese community.

The cultural festival is held to introduce and promote Vietnamese culture and cuisine .

The event to encourage Vietnamese women to wear traditional ao dai turned the large space into a truly Vietnamese cultural festival with conical hats and flowing ao dai.

In his opening speech, Mr. Park Hyeon Guk said that Bonghwa was the homeland of the Ly Dynasty when they set foot in Gyrorio and this place has long been an invisible bridge for the friendship between the two peoples of Korea and Vietnam. Today's series of events is considered the starting point for a new chapter in the exchange relationship between the people of the two countries.

The inauguration of the Community Center and the installation of the Ly Thai To statue are the first steps towards the great and extremely meaningful dream of creating a K-Vietnam Valley in Bonghwa: connecting culture, people, traditions and the future.

Also at the event, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that this year's Vietnam Cultural Festival is even more meaningful as it takes place in Bonghwa district - the land associated with the Ly family, a sacred symbol of historical exchange and strong friendship between the people of Vietnam and Korea.

Within the framework of the festival, the inauguration of the King Ly Thai To statue and the “Vietnam Village” model will open up a new cultural exchange space, not only attracting Korean tourists but also being an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists and international friends.

Therefore, this is not only a special cultural-historical event, but also a reminder for descendants to always remember their roots, appreciate the contributions of their ancestors and promote the glorious traditions of the Ly family.

This is also a vivid demonstration of the intersection between tradition and modernity, between historical depth and contemporary vitality, contributing to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the Vietnamese and Korean peoples.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho, in his congratulatory speech, emphasized that more than a millennium ago, Ly Cong Uan - also known as Ly Thai To - ascended the throne and opened the glorious Ly dynasty, laying the foundation for the thousand-year-old culture of Thang Long-Hanoi. If Ly Cong Uan is the symbol of nation building, then his descendant - Prince Ly Long Tuong - is the symbol of exchange and connection between the Vietnamese and Korean peoples.

Prince Ly Long Tuong's journey to the Korean peninsula more than eight centuries ago was the first bridge connecting the two peoples, reminding us that the Vietnam-Korea friendship has deep roots in history.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Vietnam-Korea relations have developed remarkably, becoming a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two countries have extensive cooperation in many fields: from politics, security, economy, trade to culture, education and people-to-people exchange.

The installation of the statue of King Ly Thai To in Bonghwa became a symbol of faith, friendship and common aspiration towards a prosperous future.

The Community Center is located at the center of the K-Valley Vietnam project. Bonghwa County invested 1.4 billion won (about 1 million USD) to build the center on a 370 square meter plot of land near the Chunghyodang relic of the Lee family.

The Community House is uniquely designed, inspired by traditional houses of both Vietnam and Korea with red tiled roofs and scalloped arches.

From September 2025, the building will be operational with conference rooms, living rooms and a communal kitchen. This will be a gathering place for Vietnamese residents and people of other cultures living locally to organize diverse activities, helping to connect, train and support the multicultural community.

Bongseong-myeon, where the Lee Hwasan clan, descendants of Prince Lee Yong-sang, were granted fiefdoms, currently has seven households. The local government plans to continue investing about 200 billion won (over 144 million USD) by 2033 on a 118,890 square meter plot of land in this village to build the K-Vietnam Valley, creating a center for connecting Korean and Vietnamese culture and history. This valley will also become a model for integrating cultural and historical tourism in North Gyeongsang Province./.
