Meeting Tien Phong reporter while doing registration procedures at the school dormitory, Dung said that he was admitted to the information technology - computer science major through the talent selection method. Dung is a former student majoring in Mathematics at Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted, Quang Binh (old).

Dung has 5 provincial and national excellent student awards, including 3 provincial second prizes in 3 years of high school, 1 national encouragement prize in grade 11 and 1 national third prize in grade 12.
Dung said he chose to study in Hanoi because in grade 11, when he joined the national math competition team, he saw that his seniors in grade 12 were all aiming to be admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, so Dung was "influenced" and determined to "follow" him. Dung himself also likes information technology, so when he won third place in the national competition, he applied for admission to this university through the talent method.
Dung's father was an engineer at the Department of Construction of Quang Binh (formerly), but muscular dystrophy has caused his health to decline and seriously affected his work for the past 10 years. The family's economic burden falls on his mother, a lecturer at Quang Binh College. Due to economic difficulties, although he was in the Math competition team of Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted, Dung mainly studied by himself. Teachers always accompanied Dung by providing materials. Not disappointing the expectations of his parents and teachers, in grade 12, Dung won third prize in the national Math competition for gifted students.
Choosing to study information technology with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), Dung is not worried about being replaced by AI. Because he is confident that he has the advantage of thinking about Math, not working on code (the process of creating lines of code in a programming language). Dung said that the future is quite difficult because he has just entered the university door, lives far from home, far from family, and has financial difficulties. Dung shared that when he took the train to Hanoi to enroll in school, his mother only reminded him to try hard to study and not to get lost in playing games.
In the first semester, Dung aims to get used to the new learning environment, get used to dormitory life and pass the upcoming scholarship interview. With a scholarship, living in a dormitory is also a solution for Dung to reduce the burden on his mother's shoulders. With a strong background in natural sciences, Dung hopes to pass the difficult university exams to be able to reach his dream of conquering AI in the near future.
