According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the first 6 months of 2025 recorded an impressive figure: Vietnam imported nearly 28,300 tons of pepper, with a total turnover of 174 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the import volume increased by 57% and in particular, the import value increased by 150%.
Brazil became the number 1 supplier, with more than 14,900 tons imported, doubling.
Indonesia also recorded strong growth of 86%, reaching 5,574 tons, ranking third in terms of share.
It is worth mentioning that Vietnam is the largest consumer market for pepper from Brazil and Indonesia in the first half of this year.
Mr. Le Viet Anh, General Secretary of VPSA, revealed the main reason: production costs in Brazil and Indonesia are significantly lower than in Vietnam.
Specifically, to produce 1kg of pepper, Brazil only spends about 2 USD (equivalent to 52,000 - 53,000 VND), while the price of pepper in Vietnam ranges from 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg.
There was even a time when Indonesian pepper prices were 100 USD/ton cheaper than Vietnam's.

This figure is much larger than Brazil (around 61,000 tons) or Indonesia (around 55,000 tons)," Mr. Viet Anh emphasized.
