According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the UK is emerging as Vietnam’s fastest growing pepper export market. This is considered a market with great potential in the coming time.

According to data from the International Trade Center (ITC), in the first four months of 2025, the UK imported 3,800 tons of pepper worth $28.5 million. This figure increased by 12.9% in volume and 48.3% in value compared to the same period last year. Notably, in April alone, the import volume reached 1,140 tons, worth $8.3 million.

The average import price in the first four months of the year reached 7,428 USD/ton, up 31.3% over the same period in 2024. In April alone, the average price was 7,284 USD/ton, up 28.3%.

The Import-Export Department stated that Vietnamese pepper is increasingly asserting its position in the UK market and has many opportunities to expand its market share thanks to its outstanding advantages in supply, price and trade policy.

Vietnam currently accounts for more than 35% of the global pepper export market share, ensuring an abundant, stable and continuous supply for the UK market. With its large output, Vietnam can easily meet large-scale orders, an important requirement for UK retail systems.

In terms of price, Vietnamese pepper is significantly cheaper than Indonesian pepper (about 10,509 USD/ton) while the quality is increasingly improved. This is especially attractive to British businesses and supermarket chains looking for stable quality products at reasonable prices.

In particular, Vietnam also benefits greatly from the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA). Tax exemptions and the removal of non-tariff barriers are incentives that major competitors such as India or Brazil do not have when exporting to the UK.

Currently, Vietnamese organic pepper is increasingly popular in the UK. British consumers tend to choose natural spices, no additives, certified organic and with clear origin. These are factors that Vietnam is gradually meeting through the development of standard raw material areas.
