Steel price today June 21: Domestic market stable

Steel prices recorded today, domestic market kept selling prices unchanged; Dalian iron ore will increase this week thanks to strong demand from China.

World market

Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for February 2025 delivery rose 1 yuan to 2,988 yuan/t.

Dalian iron ore futures edged up on Thursday, heading for a modest weekly gain on firm demand from steelmakers in China, the world’s biggest consumer, despite a prolonged slump in the country’s property market.

The most-traded September iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) rose 1.36% to 706 yuan ($98.31) a tonne. For the week, the contract rose 0.57%.

Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for February 2025 delivery rose 1 yuan to 2,988 yuan/t.

Benchmark July iron ore (SZZFN5) on the Singapore Exchange rose 1.42% to $94 a tonne, but was still down 0.22% for the week.

Data from consultancy Mysteel showed that the operating rate of blast furnaces in China increased slightly in the week ending June 20, reaching 83.82%, up about 0.4% from the previous week.

Hot metal output, a gauge of iron ore demand, rose 0.24% week-on-week to 2.422 million tonnes as of June 20, according to Mysteel.

New home prices in China continued to fall in May, extending a two-year slump, official data showed.

Goldman Sachs said demand for new homes in China will remain significantly lower than the market peak in 2017 over the next few years, reflecting a prolonged downturn in the real estate industry in the world's second-largest economy .

Other steelmaking components on the DCE also rose: coking coal rose 2.23%, while coke (DCJcv1) gained 2.05%.

Viet Y Steel brand, CB240 rolled steel line is priced at 13,890 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,990 VND/kg.

Viet Duc Steel, with CB240 coil steel line at 13,550 VND/kg, D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,550 VND/kg.

Viet Sing Steel, with CB240 coil steel, is priced at VND13,690/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel is priced at VND13,580/kg.

VAS steel, with CB240 coil steel line at 13,740 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,740 VND/kg.

Hoa Phat Steel, with CB240 coil steel line, is at 13,530 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,530 VND/kg.

Viet Duc Steel, currently CB240 rolled steel is at 14,050 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel is priced at 14,000 VND/kg.

VAS steel, CB240 coil steel line is at 13,740 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,790 VND/kg.
