Southern region
In the South, the price of live pigs this morning continued to decrease slightly in some localities, currently fluctuating between 65,000 - 67,000 VND/kg.
Dong Nai and An Giang both decreased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently trading at 66,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho and Ca Mau maintained the prices set in the previous session. However, if the downward trend continues, the high price zone in the South is likely to be adjusted down further.
This price adjustment is likely due to weak consumer demand, abundant supply and the lack of clear signs of recovery in the market. In addition, sluggish purchasing power after the summer holidays and unfavorable weather have also significantly affected pork consumption.
African swine fever in Da Nang
On July 11, after receiving a report that a sow belonging to Ms. Nguyen Thi Dao, Ngoc My block, Quang Phu ward, Da Nang city, had died with signs of African swine fever infection, veterinary staff of the Quang Phu ward Public Service Supply Center organized to take samples for testing and the results were positive for African swine fever virus, according to Da Nang Newspaper.
Immediately after detecting a case of African swine fever, the People's Committee of Quang Phu ward focused on directing and implementing prevention, control and environmental sanitation work in livestock farming in the area.
Accordingly, the locality has established a Working Group to prevent African swine fever to destroy dead pigs and implement measures to isolate and disinfect the affected area to prevent the spread of the disease.
At the same time, propagate and guide livestock farmers in epidemic areas to strictly apply hygiene and disinfection measures with lime powder and chemicals in the barn area and surrounding areas, not to sell, trade, transport sick pigs, suspected of having diseases, or throw dead pigs outside to spread disease and pollute the environment according to regulations.
When pigs show signs of disease and death, people need to immediately notify the authorities to destroy the pigs and fully disinfect, clean, and detoxify to destroy pathogens, not allowing them to spread the disease.
As of July 16, two outbreaks have occurred in Quang Phu ward in Ngoc My and Phu Quy blocks. Authorities have destroyed 31 infected pigs with a total weight of 1,245 kg.
