Hanoi urgently fights swine fever: More than 10,000 pigs could not be saved
According to information from VNA, African swine fever has appeared in 22 communes and wards in Hanoi, affecting 152 villages and 487 households. In total, more than 10,481 pigs had to be destroyed, with a total weight of more than 662 tons. Although the epidemic has complicated developments, localities have controlled the situation well, preventing the outbreak and widespread spread.
Bat Bat, Doai Phuong, Yen Xuan communes and many other localities have implemented effective epidemic prevention measures. The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has closely coordinated with People's Committees at all levels to guide people in monitoring, isolating, and handling outbreaks, while organizing the destruction, cleaning, and disinfection of livestock environments.
To proactively control the epidemic, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen requested departments, agencies and sectors to focus on early detection and timely handling of outbreaks. He also emphasized the coordination between the Department of Agriculture and Environment with the Police, Market Management and inter-sectoral agencies to strictly control the transportation, slaughter and trading of pig products. At the same time, propaganda work has also been stepped up to raise people's awareness of the harmful effects of the epidemic and encourage biosafety farming.
To prevent diseased pigs from circulating in the market, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade is assigned to monitor the market, ensure pork supply, and control product quality at markets, supermarkets, and slaughterhouses.
Products of unknown origin or not yet quarantined will be strictly handled. The Department of Finance is also required to advise on allocating sufficient funds for disease prevention and control and pork testing. Previously, the first outbreak in Dung Tien Commune (now Thuong Phuc Commune), Thuong Tin District was discovered on June 16 and successfully contained after 21 days.
