Making Vietnam-Singapore relations a model in international relations in the new era

According to General Secretary To Lam, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework will contribute to further enhancing political trust and opening up a broader and deeper space for cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore.

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Singapore, at noon on March 12, right after the talks, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Secretary General of the People's Action Party of Singapore (PAP) Lawrence Wong chaired a press conference to inform about the results of the talks and officially announced the upgrading of Vietnam-Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Speaking to the press, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore and PAP Secretary-General Lawrence Wong was pleased to announce that the two countries have upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On this occasion, the two countries also signed many documents on strengthening cooperation, preventing and combating transnational crimes, enhancing cooperation in digital transformation, digital economy, financial technology, green economy, renewable energy. The two sides expanded cooperation in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP), creating jobs for people and continuing to encourage smarter, more modern VSIPs in the future... That demonstrates the level of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and contributes to promoting cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the press conference, General Secretary To Lam shared that the two sides had a very successful meeting, in the spirit of openness, frankness, sincerity and mutual understanding.

The General Secretary was pleased to note that after more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, including more than 10 years of Strategic Partnership, cooperation between the two countries has developed extensively in all fields, and political trust has increased.

General Secretary To Lam said that with the solid achievements that have been made, on the basis of mutual understanding and trust, shared similarities in strategic interests and priorities, as well as a common vision of security, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region, the two sides announced the upgrading of the Vietnam-Singapore relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

This new framework will contribute to further strengthening political trust and opening up a broader and deeper space for cooperation, making the Vietnam-Singapore cooperative relationship a model in international relations in the new era, based on respect for each country's independence, sovereignty and political institutions as well as international law, bringing practical benefits to the people, contributing to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.

The two sides highly agreed on the direction of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.

The General Secretary emphasized that since Vietnam joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Singapore has always been an important economic partner, accompanying Vietnam throughout its reform, opening up and development. Vietnam is proud to have a friend and comprehensive strategic partner like Singapore.

Previously, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Secretary General of PAP Lawrence Wong witnessed the handover of cooperation documents on the cooperation agreement on prevention and combating transnational crimes between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore; a memorandum of understanding on digital transformation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information of Singapore; a joint report on Vietnam-Singapore offshore wind power trade cooperation; a memorandum of understanding on enhancing cooperation in the field of financial innovation between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Monetary Authority of Singapore; a letter of intent for cooperation between the State Securities Commission and the Monetary Authority of Singapore; a decision on investment policy for the VSIP infrastructure construction and business project for the two provinces of Nam Dinh and Nghe An; a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in research and proposal of investment projects in Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province (Vietnam); a three-way memorandum of understanding on cooperation between A*Star-Sembcorp-Becamex./.
