A Carnival Cruise Line cruise ship encountered severe weather during an eight-day cruise from Los Angeles, USA, through the Mexican coast in mid-August.
On this journey, visitors will have many stops in Mexico including Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, La Paz and Cabo San Lucas.
Recently, Ms. Matt Lupoli, a spokesperson for the cruise line, officially confirmed to the media about the incident. That was when the cruise ship encountered strong winds and rain, leading to the ship tilting to one side.

Meanwhile, videos recorded by passengers on the train showed broken china in the dining room. Goods scattered on the floor of a shop. Water pouring from an elevator while lightning and thunder rumbled outside.
“The incident ended quickly and the captain steered the ship towards calmer waters. Crew members immediately focused on assisting passengers and cleaning up,” the shipping company representative informed.
Also due to this incident, some passengers were injured and were examined by the medical team on board. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The ship's systems and facilities were not seriously affected. The ship's schedule has not changed. It is known that the cruise ship has continued its next voyage.
According to travel expert Joanna Kuther, owner of Port Side Travel Consultants, the roll on cruise ships can be caused by changes in weight and balance. She said that for cruise ships that are not carrying cargo, the cause of the roll is often due to the impact of the weather.
It is known that the cruise ship brought guests safely to shore on August 24.
Although there have been several similar incidents on cruise ships in recent years, notably the 2023 Carnival Sunshine, Kuther said these are “very rare” incidents. Crew members are well trained in how to keep the ship stable during storms.
“With all the weather forecasts out there, ships will do everything they can to avoid bad weather, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Cruise ships are designed and built to handle these situations,” Kuther said.
Carnival Panorama cruise ship belongs to Carnival Cruise Line. This is a ship built in 2019 with a capacity of more than 4,000 guests.
Earlier in August, an incident also occurred on a luxury cruise ship. The Celebrity Constellation, a cruise ship of Celebrity Cruises carrying more than 3,000 passengers, suddenly lost power while traveling in the Ionian Sea, about 40km from the city of Crotone (Southern Italy).
According to witnesses, the entire electrical system on the ship suddenly stopped working for about 3 hours, causing the lights, air conditioning, toilets and kitchen to all be paralyzed.
After the power failure, the yacht's speed also dropped, much lower than its normal cruising speed of 24 knots, and it drifted for nearly three hours.

With the outside temperature approaching 27 degrees Celsius, the air conditioning stopped working, making the space inside the ship quickly become stuffy. When the kitchen could not operate, guests had to switch to cold dinner.
The ship’s technical team worked with support on land to restore the electrical system. After about two hours, power was partially restored, but it took some time for the ship to regain full mobility.
Regarding this incident, the shipping company representative said the cause was due to a technical problem. However, this person did not specify the specific cause or the repair process.
