A magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook western Afghanistan on October 15, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said.

According to EMSC, this earthquake had a focal depth of 10 km.
Also related to the above earthquake, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the earthquake occurred at 3:36 am (GMT), 33 km from the city of Herat, Afghanistan. Meanwhile, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences GFZ, the above earthquake was initially determined to be at coordinates 34.76 degrees North latitude and 62.16 degrees East longitude.
There is currently no information on damage caused by the recent earthquake.
Earlier, on October 11, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck western Afghanistan, killing at least one person and injuring 153. The epicenter was about 29 kilometers north of Herat, the capital of the province of the same name, according to the USGS.
International aid agencies say their efforts to meet urgent needs in Afghanistan have been hampered by the Taliban's control since August 2021.
