Another earthquake occurred in Kon Tum

On March 30, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Geophysics said it was monitoring an earthquake that occurred in the mountainous area of Kon Tum with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.

Information from the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center said that an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, with a natural disaster risk level of 0, occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

Accordingly, the earthquake occurred at 16:38:58'' ( Hanoi time) today at the coordinates (14.955 degrees North latitude, 108.178 degrees East longitude), with a focal depth of about 8.2km.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Geophysics is continuing to monitor this earthquake.

Also according to the Institute of Geophysics, recently, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, has continuously recorded many earthquakes of different intensities, raising concerns about the safety of people and infrastructure in the area.

In particular, on July 28, 2024, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province experienced 13 consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 5.0 on the Richter scale.

The earthquakes in Kon Plong were considered by scientists at the Institute to be "triggered earthquakes", caused by the water accumulation process of the hydroelectric reservoir affecting the fault system below. This phenomenon has occurred in some areas with large hydroelectric power plants.

These earthquakes not only cause local tremors but can also affect neighboring provinces. Many people have felt the tremors, especially in earthquakes with magnitudes above 4.0. Although no serious damage to people or property has been recorded, the continuous tremors have made people worried and require timely response measures.
