How severe will Iran's retaliation against Israel be?

Why did Iran's retaliatory attack on Israel shock the world, and how drastic will Tehran's military action be?

In the history of modern warfare, Iran's retaliation by launching hundreds of missiles at Israel at the same time was the first time. From the night of June 13 until June 16, Iran's missile rain continuously attacked major cities in Israel. Tel Aviv's air defense sirens rang out across the night sky. Israel's air defense system strained to intercept, but dozens of missiles still penetrated the defense line and attacked many cities in Israel.

This time, Iran not only launched a large-scale attack in the style of “big thunder, small rain”, but also launched missiles in multiple waves, targeting Israeli military bases and the headquarters of the Mossad intelligence agency. They even used the Fateh supersonic missile, which is called “unstoppable” for the first time.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed that 90% of the missiles hit their targets, while Israel claimed that they intercepted "most of them", but in reality nine buildings in Ramat Gan were flattened, hundreds of buildings were damaged, and hundreds of people were injured.

What was even more shocking was Iran's claim that it had shot down three Israeli F-35 fighter jets and released photos of the wreckage. However, an Israeli military spokesman firmly denied it, calling it an Iranian fabrication.

The direct cause of Iran's retaliation was Israel's "Am KaLavi (Lion Power)" operation, which began early in the morning of the 13th. The Israeli army mobilized more than 200 fighter jets to attack Iran's nuclear facilities; directly killing the Chief of Staff of the Iranian army, Major General Mohammed Bagheri; Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami and a number of nuclear scientists .

In coordination with the Israeli Air Force's attack, the Mossad intelligence force also contributed greatly, using false intelligence to trick high-ranking Iranian officials into holding a meeting, then accurately bombing the location, directly killing a number of key commanders.

The scale of this attack was equivalent to hitting the heart of the Iranian military, forcing Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei to declare: "The Israeli regime must be completely destroyed." The Iranian General Staff then declared: "Israel has crossed all red lines, and now Tehran has no limits for retaliatory attacks."

Iran's retaliation is not the end, but the beginning of a bigger storm. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "If Iran crosses the red line, our counterattack will be more fierce." Currently, two US Burke-class destroyers have entered the Mediterranean to support Israel in intercepting missiles.

Even more worrying is Iran's threat to block the Strait of Hormuz, causing world oil prices to spike 8% and gold to surpass $3,400 an ounce. If the situation continues to escalate, a third Middle East war may not be far away.

In the past, most conflicts between Israel and Iran have been “proxy wars,” such as the war between Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas and Israel. But this time is different — Iran and Israel are fighting directly, without any buffer zone.

More importantly, the nuclear facility was bombed by the air force and Iran announced its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear negotiations. If Israel continues to attack Iran's Fordow nuclear facility, the leakage of radioactive materials will cause a regional disaster.

Amid the threat to world peace, UN Secretary-General Guterres has made an urgent appeal: "The Middle East is on the brink of an abyss." Russian President Putin called the leaders of Iran and Israel overnight to mediate. Although the US claimed "no involvement in the attack," President Trump admitted: "We know everything"; apparently accepting Israel's actions.

Iran's missile retaliation is just the beginning, and Israel's counterattack plan is ready. Both sides are in a dilemma - if Iran does not respond strongly, domestic anger will flare up against the government.

If Israel does not completely destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities, it will “lose sleep and appetite”. Israel cannot leave the Iranian nuclear threat “to the next generation”. If nothing is done now, Israel will not be able to survive in the region and may not even have a next generation. (photo source Sina, Al Jazeera, IRNA, TASS).
