On the opening day (August 8) of the second round of SEA V.League 2025, despite some difficulties, the Vietnamese girls still defeated the Philippine women's team 3-0 (25-14, 30-28, 25-22).
This is the second consecutive victory for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team. Previously, in the first leg, the team defeated their opponent with a score of 3-1.
According to the latest update on the rankings of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the Vietnamese women's team was awarded 4.46 more points after the victory over the Philippines, bringing the total score to 152.37.
Thanks to that, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team rose to 23rd place in the world for the first time (previously the team was ranked 26th in the world), the highest position in the history of Vietnamese women's volleyball.
With the current ranking, the Vietnamese women's team is still second in Southeast Asia after Thailand (21st in the world, 160.42 points), but the point gap has been significantly shortened to 8.05 points.
If they can defeat the Indonesian team this afternoon, August 9, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will continue to accumulate points to improve their ranking.
Meanwhile, the Thai women's team has just finished competing in the FIVB Nations League 2025 (successfully staying in the league), so their matches at SEA V.League 2025 will not be counted for points.
The goal of the Vietnamese women's team in the second stage of SEA V.League 2025 is not only to win to accumulate points but also to aim for the first time to defeat Thailand in an official tournament.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will have that opportunity when the two teams meet in the final match on August 10 at Ninh Binh Province Stadium.
